For those of you that remember, I had an anxiety attack a couple months back and got a lot of support from some folks here. Well I got the bill today and it's enough to cause another attack!!! $1608.00 fucking dollars!!!

I saw a nurse for 30 minutes, Spoke to a doctor for 5 minutes, and they gave me a 100mg Xanax to calm me down! HOLY SHIT!!! Healthcare in America is getting out of control!!!

I got one of those a few years ago, I just called them and told them I could only afford 10 bucks a month, they said no problem, I set it up online checking for 10 bucks a month and paid them off. in a few years

I had surgery three years ago and the bill was $64,000 bucks. this is the killer when i came in the emergency room. they put the socks with tread on it. They said i had to have them so as i do not trip..I would not been able to walk even if i wanted to.

The bill for the socks were $38.00

So true. Over the last few years, I had to have a lump removed from the side of my face, a lymphnode out of my neck (which ended up causing nerve damage so physical therapy followed) and surgery to re-attach the flexor tendons in my arm. I don't think I spent more than 100.00 between all of those surgeries. The most expensive part was the copays to the doctors for follow-ups.

That's what I did, too....the last time I was hospitalised...

They also did something else. They asked me if I were the sole support of my family, so I said yes.

They reduced my bill from 15G's to two and I paid them 50 dollars a month until it was bye bye.

Call Social Services at the hospital. They should be able to help you.

There are two ways around this:

Option 1: Fight the collection agency. They aren't tied to the government, and the reason they harass you so much is because they purchased your debt from the Hospital for something cheap like 10-25 cents on the dollar. Then they make their money by either offering you a settlement plan, or by charging the full amount. The Hospital has been paid regardless. So you can tell them "I don't care if you assumed my debt, the Hospital treated me, not you, so I'm not paying anything". Or you can really have fun with them and tell them you already paid everything in the mail. When they call back asking for the money cause they didn't recieve it, act very mad about it, don't let them intimidate you. Fuck up your credit my ass, no one fights with a pissed off consumer. There are actually legal ways around it, but I forget what they were, because this option is actually fun.

Option 2: Move to Canada and never pay for a hospital bill again, because it's covered in your taxes or something. Canadians are far superior to the USA when it comes to the important stuff.

i broke my arm and some lady called the cops so the fire truck came.. and they WOULDN"T let me go i was like 15.. i was like naw im fine i don't need to goto hospital... next thing i knew 5 firemen held me and strapped me into a bed and threw me in the fire truck, charged my parents 3,000$ for the fire truck ride, and like 8k for my broken arm, parents were pissed
