Best Blog Software?

which of the blog scripts is the best? easiest to install, customize, etc.

free scripts or ones that cost money - doesn't make a difference.

thanks

thanks, looking at Movable Type now, looks reasonably simple.

one question - looks like i have to set up a directory to install Movable Type into and for the admin part of it - i want the generated blog content to be on the index.html page of the site
i.e http://www.mutt.com/index.html(php) , i don't want http://www.mutt.com/mt/index.html

there's alot of hahahahahahahahaation here and i haven't found that part yet.

how much traffic can this thing handle before mySQL should be used? This site will be 1,000 visitors per day for awhile, might double in a few month, maybe 5,000 in a year at most.

thanks

Just install it in the root directory of your site. You don't have to install it in a directory called /mt/. If I recall, that is just the way their examples are.

I set one up so when you go to www.domain.com it is just the blog that loads, and it isn't in a /mt/ directory. It was a cinch to set up.

Can't answer your sql question, sorry!

Note: There are two storage options for Movable Type, Berkeley DB or MySQL. Nearly all hosts with Perl support include Berkeley DB, and many support MySQL. We strongly recommend using a MySQL database if the option exists on your server.

Once you have the code installed and working, you can create new blogs wherever you like, (I think). It will simply access the .pl files in the /mt directory when it rebuilds the pages.

I'm running 6 blogs off the same install on multiple domains (same server).

Also, the MT people have a kickass hosted service called typepad (or blogs.com) that has the best auto photo gallery maker I've seen.
(It is a paid service)

If you want *really* easy, use typepad. I recommend it to everyone (it saves me the hassle of having to help them set up).

I REALLY like http://www.pmachine.com/ This script not only has a blogging script, it has a full-blown forum board script and calander script. You can use as is, or customize everything with different colors, layouts, etc.

PMachine looks good but looking at the sites using it I don't see much difference between it and Movable Type. Movable Type has a bigger community of people adding new plugins and templates.
