solid hosting for around 60 TB/month... what is being offered?

including say 10-11 servers, a couple of load balancers, and solid tech support - on a per gig basis? not looking to move, just curious what others are paying for this type of set up at the moment.

thanks

At that level, I would look into a carrier hotel that has a significant carrier neutral space provider and a robust offering of ISPs to offer upstream connectivity.

111 8th street in NYC where Switch and Data resides as well most of the major players have facilites established and use as their landing points to and from the world.

165 Halsey street in Newak NJ - Equinix is there as well, they offer a free backhaul over them MAN back to seacacus and have most of the major carriers there as well.

Id go with Equinix since most of the major players in the ISP game today themselves are in Equinix and makes interconnecting much easier. Also, the level of services that Equinix offers makes the total atmosphere VERY professional.

I've taken tours and had clients there and they loved it. There is also office space you can rent on site for the tech crew to work. Switch and data has the techs out on the floor at top volume, its not as pretty.

From a cost perspective, It all depends on where you want to be colocated at.

There is a deal in Miami offering free space at the NAP of the americas and BW at $40 per mbps from a carrier I know.

If we get a client that requires that much bw today, with 24/7 tech support..

we'd charge 20 - 25 cents/gig.

Reflected is in Equinix Chicago. Fully redundant network, multi-homed.

Bandwidth with servers included would be $12,000 month ($.20/gig)

We'll fly you out first class for a free tour if you want to see. We're in the best datacenter in the world.

buying that much bandwidth you should be able to get quality bandwidth at a nice discount.

i'm no hosting guru but these hosting companies are paying maybe $50 per megabit for their tier 1 bandwidth - maybe even cheaper but let's say $50. If they were to charge you $75 per megabit which seems reasonable on the amount of bandwidth you would be using - that 75 divided by 320 gigs - so like 25 cents per gig.

I just dropped 3 more servers there last week. I've been in my share of facilities and I can say that Equinix is nothing short of impressive.

1mbps is NOT 320 gigs. That is a rough figure. If you factor in bursting/95th percentile billing (which is what all providers bill hosting companies at) it comes to a lot more. Especially in adult where there are high peaks.

nonsense
1mbps = 320 gigs

say you factor in 95th percentile

hmm so you lose some of the top more like 300G , how you got 500-600 is pure bafoonery

Bro your a moron, come on just admit it to the people in this thread.

Its not the TGP, its the webmasters submitting their free preview TGP pages to the TGP that's killing the industry by your measurements. But umm wait a sec now, back in the day didn't persian kitty provide the same shit as today's TGPs except without thumbnail pics.

So yeah your a moron!

Just for the comment about undercutting..

At that price we can still make money, including space. You have to understand being in Equinix bandwidth is cheaper than other places, and the volumes we buy at is quite a lot. We are FULLY taking advantage of the current (we believe temporary) insane pricing large networks are selling their soul at. Also you have to keep in mind there may be agreements in place for peering, that further lowers the cost per mbit.

Also what has to be figured in is the future potential bringing online a large customer with a big name such as Quiet. Getting folks in the door is the hard part. Word of mouth goes a long ways.

I've just heard this comment we're undercutting the industry too much lately. Yes, we are selling very high quality services lower than we will be 6 months. However, it is a calculated business decision in order to get our name out there and show people the level of service we do offer. NOTHING beats word of mouth advertising. Period.

Oh well, sorry for the spam. That comment simply is one of my peeves.

Bro your a moron, come on just admit it to the people in this thread.
Your argument is week and I know a bead of sweat is dripping off your forehead right with the realism that your whole presence in this industry is nothing more then a parasite on the hard working real webmasters that make the industry the great thing that it is.

If I where you I would trash eveyrthing you have done re-think your goals and attitude and come back with a new strategy.

Good luck.

You will only find out what you really can get doing 200 mbits with that many servers if you talk directly with any hosting company / the President. They are a business of course and they will try to be competitive. If you want to find out what National-Net can offer you, I'd call them up and ask for Tony though he may not be back from Cancun yet.

Cheers,
Matt

I don't understand why everyone says this... I have problems on a daily basis with my virtual hosting account. I've got a cheap dedicated server that is far more reliable than my service with webair...

I guess it's because I'm not a big customer, at least that's the impression I get whenever I talk to their support guys.

Who the fuck are you? Some tgp owner?

You're talking to a guy that OWNS a hosting company among other things, I think quiet would take his advice over yours.
