And more importantly, how is the coverage. Are you satisfied? I need a mobile phone in the US. Looking for a decent provider.

Cingular. It's really good, it works pretty much anywhere I go, and I can call anywhere in Hawaii, Alaska and the Continental US with no roaming or long distance charges. But I think that's starting to be the norm for most providers.

Verizon Wireless. They suck monkey nuts. I pay 50 bucks a month for 300 minutes, the same cost now covers 700 minutes in thier new plan but gasp, they say I have to pay them 100 bucks to change my plan.
I think I am going to go for the $99 unlimited plan from sprint, it seems like a much better deal. I pay 100 bucks a month now anyway. |

Sprint. I was paying $107 (after taxes) but when they passed the law that you can move carriers and take you're # with you i had some bargaining power to work with. Called them to say i would not be sticking around if they didn't match what company X is now offering. Long story short, i got the bill reduced to $55 a month (after taxes).
Everyone keep in mind they can't hold you hostage anymore (unless you are still under contract) since most often customers stay with who they have for the conveinience of not having to change phone #'s.

*bump*
Is T-Mobile any good in the US? I'm currently using them in Holland and their prices look reasonable. I want to pay as less as possible, because I don't call much really. |

I have Sprint and have terrible service. They also changed my free nationwide long distance plan to a 15 cent /minute plan which sucks because I needed that. Switching to cingular.

If you don't use it that much and or it's a temp thing in the US then try this one out
http://www.attwireless.com/personal/prepaid/ You can pick up the phone cheap in groceries and dept stores, and with some phones, you can call them and they will set it up to use the phone you have. They have all sorts of options as well.

Seb... this plan allows you to recharge the phone from the cell OR a landline OR online (as well as you can buy prepaid cards to punch in) from anywhere. ;-) I've used it for over a year and never had a bit of trouble. It pops your time-minutes up each time you turn it on etc so you aren't caught short etc.
Takes about 2 mins to recharge via the phone and about 1 minute if you do it online. We weighed the time it would need to be used versus a contract and a set amount per month and this one won hands down. At least read in to the site and compare it to the contract costs etc. If you don't use it that often, then its the better deal by far. You might be thinking of those rinky throwaways I have seen.

you dont "run out of minutes" you can set up billing options to do very different things. I have mine set to renew when you run out of minutes. I dont use my phone like most people but its a good plan. [prepaid just means prepaid, i like paying things in advance therefore I dont owe anyone anything. Free weekends, free nights after 8 pm, kick ass so far. no contract, no fees - its the only way for me. http://www.attwireless.com/personal/gophone/index.jhtml http://www.attwireless.com/gophone/rates.html

You know it Fletch! Why get locked in when prices continue to fall too.
We don't go the auto refill tho. Too many places abuse that still.

Thanks for clearing this up Gemini and Fletch. I guess you're already a bit ahead of us on this one. Here you charge a prepaid by a card you buy in the store. Not very efficient.
I actually might try the prepaid thing first. It's not like I'm gonna have a huge amount of friends I have to call every day when I just move in. Cheers.. ![]() |

Me and my girl were in a store and just picked one of these up. Got home, called the number, and had a phone number in minutes, and havent paid anything yet. the first month is free, and I got like 600 bonus minutes, wont even be billed for 30 days. As I mentioned, Im not one of those people on their cellphone all day, but like to have one, these rule. small, cheap, effecient. works for me, now I am convinced. http://www.attwireless.com/media/360..._360spin.jhtml billing options are cool too, you can set it up to recur one the same day every month, you cxan have it recur when you *run out of minutes* all kinds of ways, very flexible. No cards or hassles, buy time online or with text messages too. internet, mail, messaging, everything ;)

Most of the plans offer the store cards as well... I carried one for the first few months until we could test the online and straight call in with cc methods payments. I generally don't carry a cc or dc, so having a way to get minutes added right away if I needed them was our biggest worry. Then we found out that I could call 911 even if I *were* out of minutes. lol (supposedly)
The kind of plan you guys seem to still have (prepay cards only) didn't go over very well so they rushed the online and other pay methods out. Sounds like Fletchs plan more follows the regular contract idea on minutes, where mine is just X amount of minutes per dollar (Getting cheaper minutes as you prepay higher amounts) But they just came out with some new plans that we are going to look in to soon. All I have to do to change is call and change the service. We also get to keep the same numbers even if changing providers now too.
