Saddest Movie Ever

I just finished watching Grave of the Fireflies (1988, Studio Ghibli). If that's not the saddest movie ever, I don't know what is.

"Sayta?"
"Uh huh?"
"Thank you."

"And she never woke up."

No! No crying along with me unless you've seen this movie! I won't have a bunch of sad sacks keeping me company if they don't even know what they're sad about!

Grave of the Fireflies is a great animated movie. Have you ever read any background on the film? It's based on an autobiographical novel, which makes it even sadder.

Yeah I read that in the storyboard info.I haven't read the book, though.

I know it's cliche, but the saddest movie I've seen is Titanic. Because (1) it really happened, not the exact story/characters, but the premise behind it (2) the part where the mother is reading to her small children to get them to go to sleep so they won't be afraid because she knows they're going to die gets me every time and (3) the scene with the elderly couple lying in bed together, just holding one another as the water rises up around them, is just too, too heartbreaking. I can just imagine how terrified all the people that were really aboard the Titanic must have been and how horrible it must have been to die that way.

They got me when he ran into the alley. I really thought that he stole the german guys uniform til they showed his face

But the saddest movie thats made me cry was The Passion I started crying when I saw Jesus fall on the cross and then the flashback of him falling and Mary lifting him up. But she couldn't do it anymore...

Tootie, I agree about those Titanic scenes. Those really got me going, too.

Beaches.. oh yeah! Man I saw that when I was 10 and just couldn't hold it in. My friend and I were crying into our popcorn. And I'm not one to cry at movies.

Other movies that made me shed a tear:
Baby, the last Dinosaur (when they killed it)
Starman (when they killed him)
Fox and the Hound (when Copper stops the hunter from killing Todd)
Band of Brothers (lots of places)

Beaches, oh man, yeah, that one makes me cry. Some other movies that have made me cry alot:

Gone with the Wind (especially when Bonnie dies)
American Tale (it's so sad when Feivel loses his family!)
Ghost (I know what it's like to want just one more moment with someone)
My Girl - (it's so sad when she cries at her friend's funeral!)
The Lion King - (when Mufasa dies!)

Those are just a few off the top of my head. I cry alot while watching movies. LOL

What makes it worse is that from the start of the movie, you know there is no hope.

I can't think of the saddest movie I have ever seen. I have connected with sad emotional energy that is in lots of movies, the ones you can really identify with.
