Saddest movie ever for me was ------ up in smoke!!!!

I mean it was tear jerking tradgic when the van caught fire, and the guys only had so long to make it before the fumes got everyone stoned.... and the way people were cheering when they thought people were fucking in the van... what a love scene:(

Sean Penn's movie "The Pledge" starring Nicolson.....

He had it all and threw it away on an obession.....

"Saving Private Ryan" was also pretty sad

"Sayta?"
"Uh huh?"
"Thank you."

"And she never woke up."

I agree.

What makes it worse is that from the start of the movie, you know there is no hope.

I can't think of the saddest movie I have ever seen. I have connected with sad emotional energy that is in lots of movies, the ones you can really identify with.

"I am Sam" with Sean Penn is sad as hell. It's a really good movie, but I can't help but cry like a little girl when I see it.

I cried like a baby during that one :waaaaahh

Grave of the fireflies is based on a true story and it really was a very touching film, saw it a few years ago, definitely want to watch it again sometime.

Oh also definitely check out Mononoke Hime, released here as Princess Mononoke, its also pretty good imo, a bit more of a happy ending, but not in the traditional fairy tale kind of way.

Wow, I can't believe one of my threads lasted through a whole night! Thanks folks for posting :)

I thougth Saving Private Ryan was overdone and too Hollywood. I felt like my tear ducts were being purposefully manipulated, so it didn't afffect me that much.

Old Yeller.. yeah hehe haven't watched that one in years and years.

Haven't seen Sophie's Choice, though I probably should.

Nobody mentioned Bambi, when his mother dies.

Completely agree with you there. Movies are over in <3 hours, but you can muse on a book for months and months.

Dancer in the Dark is definitely the saddest movie ive ever seen.
