"I am Sam" with Sean Penn is sad as hell. It's a really good movie, but I can't help but cry like a little girl when I see it.

I cried like a baby during that one :waaaaahh

Grave of the fireflies is based on a true story and it really was a very touching film, saw it a few years ago, definitely want to watch it again sometime.

Oh also definitely check out Mononoke Hime, released here as Princess Mononoke, its also pretty good imo, a bit more of a happy ending, but not in the traditional fairy tale kind of way.

Wow, I can't believe one of my threads lasted through a whole night! Thanks folks for posting :)

I thougth Saving Private Ryan was overdone and too Hollywood. I felt like my tear ducts were being purposefully manipulated, so it didn't afffect me that much.

Old Yeller.. yeah hehe haven't watched that one in years and years.

Haven't seen Sophie's Choice, though I probably should.

Nobody mentioned Bambi, when his mother dies.

Completely agree with you there. Movies are over in <3 hours, but you can muse on a book for months and months.
