Is It Better To Work For Yourself or For A Company?

Both has its pros and cons but which would you prefer? One benefit of working for a company is that you have a steady paycheck coming in regardless of what your company did that week/month. Owning your own business can have its ups and downs and a static paycheck is really non-existint.

For those who have done both, please let me know how you feel about this. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Little things like health benefits and paid vacations go a long way with me! I am happy for working for TopBucks.

I think working from home for a company would be ideal But it is fun making your own thing instead of making soemthing for someone else.

For yourself for sure is what is best. People hire you because you make them more than what they are paying you, work for yourself and keep it all.

Tru there are down periods when you work for yourself, but in the end you are gonna make alot more working for yourself.

I currently do both, working for myself is much more rewarding but with three kids, I need to know I have a steady coming in on top of what we bring in.

In my honest opinion no job provides security anymore. If it suits your personality and you can deal with the risk, ups and downs, I think it's definitely better to be self employed.

If you want my honest opinion it is that you can really do both. I have worked here now for 3 years, and at the same time continued to do my own thing within the limits of the company rules. I make a couple cents here and there from both, and having the extra from multiple streams of income has paid its dues big time.

Doing the same, have 1 kid and another on the way..

I'd prefer to work for myself full-time and spend more time with family but the reality is i need to provide for my kids and can't afford a 'bad week' or a paycheck that doesn't cover everything.

I've worked for other people for 32 yrs.. and the last 7 yrs have worked for myself so I have a good experience to pull from. I have never, and I mean NEVER been happier than I am right now working for myself.

There is no such thing as job security whether you work for someone else or you work for yourself. I work harder right now than I ever have in my whole life, almost 16 hrs a day 24/7 so the pay may be less if you figured the hourly wage.. but dang.. I love working for myself! I sleep when I want, eat when I want, go wherever I want to anytime I want to.. it just doesn't get better than this.. no kidding ;)

The only downfall so far to working for myself has been the lack of a steady paycheck. Other than that, I love it.

The independence alone makes it worth it. I can do as I please. I can work when I want. I can take as many days off as needed. I can drink during the weekdays.

Once I started generating more profit, I'll be in heaven in terms of profit and independence.

i think it depends entirely on your personality. do you really want to work on your own? are you ready, willing or able to accept 100% responsibility for everything including the risks that go with?

i dont think its so much a choice as it is the fact that we are forced to that choice by our personalities and characters. people who are non-conformists, suffer from attention deficit disorder, narcissistic (or other emotional problems) typically can't work well with others.

people who are easily contented and value a percieved sense of safety and security over the percieved risks of self employment would be more likely to work for others.

if your goal is to build wealth and create any real financial independence, it would be tough to do if you were someones employee.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a great book that helps put it into perspective.

My family is in a business too.. not porn.. tv sales and service. it's taken care of them for over 40 yrs, so I see what you mean. If I were to work for someone again it'd be for them

Yeah, that's kindof my thought pattern at the moment. I love my job and I love the people I work for but I don't love the fact that I'm helping (in a large part) pay their lease and mortgage payments.

It's not good for your personal well-being and morale when you see this going on around you every day. Resentment is an easy word to say but a hard feeling to keep bottled up.
