Who is to blame for the effectiveness of the 9/11/01 terror plot?

Ok...who the fuck is to blame?

I mean come, I'm tired of everybody trying to take credit for being stand-up leaders in the face of a national tradegy...

Who the fuck is to blame?

We knew the twin towers were a target.

Reagan?
Bush I?
Clinton?
Bush II?
Security agencies?

Who is to blame...and what penalty should they face for their lack of protection...

Still almost 3 years later no one has been convicted of any crimes relating to 9/11.

No major directors have been fired, no agencies reshuffled.

wtf?

Complaceny!

With the vast sums of cash - more than any nation on earth - being dumped into "intellgence" and "defense" I am still amazed there was actually no air cover over places like New York and an incredible lack of, which is now described as "actionable intelligence".

In addition the largest "intelligence agency" in the world did not actually have arabic translators or any significant "feet on the ground". Tho not related, they still did not have "feet on the ground" within Iraq and relied on third party info from UN Inspection Teams.

In the end when 9/11 did happen, we had a nation in a state of hyper-excitement as though they were the first to have experienced terrorism. Take a tip - welcome to the real world! Tho I sure would not wish terrorist acts on anyone.

PS .. I suppose it is pot luck I am alive today - I've felt the blast of a "terrorist" bomb and 30 seconds earlier and I'd have been in the middle of it.

Those to blame are
1. All the politicians down through the years who supported and encouraged our totally one sided treatment of israel.
2. All the politicians down through the years who supported and encouraged the cia fucking around with other peoples countries.
3. All the politicians down through the years who supported and encouraged our installation, manipulation and/or support of various dictators and other murderers in the middle east and elsewhere. That includes saddam and osama.
4. Last but not least, all the people who continually voted for all those politicians.

Two very good posts.

Spending billions on "Inteligence" and what has it prevented? It's not as if 9/11 was the first attack on the US or it's people/military around the world. Just the biggest.

You cannot expect to get involved in politics in other countries without feeling a backlash. When US planes, helicopters and tanks are used to kill Palestinians do not expect to see support from all Muslims.

The sad part charly, is that the majority of americans have no clue as to what their own govt has been doing over the years. The news media and pundits keep asking "why do they hate us" and bush and others talk bs about how they are just evil and hate us for our freedom. What a joke, but NO ONE talks about the real reasons. Saying anything negative about israel is completely taboo for reporters and all politicians, they know a single word guarantees the anti-semitic charge. And criticizing the military industrial complex and the role of the cia in fucking with other peoples countries just goes right over most peoples heads.
The only solution to terrorism being proposed by either political party is the john wayne approach, to simply kick their butts and/or kill them all, which works great in the movies but just escalates things in real life. The real reasons behind most of the terrorism isnt even being mentioned, which guarantees it will continue.

amen

You forgot all the Corporations that made their business model
ripping off anyone that isn't a US citizen.

[sarcasm]
What you should do to stop terrorism is impose more trade
sanctions and bomb more countries.... The more America tries to
fuck over other peoples lives, the less terrorists will be created.
[/sarcasm]

To those that think terrorism is a global operation run by a small
group of smart people..... geez.... wake up.

Terrorists are just pissed off individuals that have decided they
won't die silently in some 3rd-world country but instead will show
ppl just how pissed off they really are.

How do you stop them?

Try not pissing off whole regions of ppl.

i would say it was a collaboration of people, things and events, for some reason some people didnt feel that the info was true enough to act on and it blew up in their face, literally, the government seems to have a problem with reacting to certian threats and believing they are true, dont really know who should be punished it is so hard to point a finger at one person or even a few

So you think that American's have nothing to do with the Canada/US border...that we're running the whole show.

Typical American....pointing the blame anywhere but themselves.

Those are US officals checking what's going in the country idiot.

And some people didnt feel that the info about weapons of mass destruction in iraq was true enough to act on, but that didnt stop them from doing what they wanted anyway. If anyone is going to be blamed, it has to be the people on whose watch it occured. Can you even imagine what republicans would be saying if clinton or gore had been in charge when such a thing happened?

Within a representitive democracy for the civilians to be innocent
the leaders must be responsible. If the rulers do not take
resposibility for their policies and actions, then the citizens must.
If the people of the land do not hold themselves and their lords
responsible then their enemies may. It is the duty of any truly
innocent civilian to hold their leaders accoutable for the deeds
they commit in the name of those they represent.

I think that it is time for new blood to enter the white house. we should vote on not letting any of the prior presidents relatives into the white house. they just keep fucking things up. there has been a long wait for new blood. maybe we should vote for someone who knows what real americans do and not those people who go spend weekends in thier private resorts. I also think that we should have someone in office who has gone through the same struggles that we have gone through. I thank god that Bush didnt have sons because they would have fuck shit up too.

The US has been interfering in the middle east for 80 years and other countries even longer. The remarkable thing isn't that 911 happened, but that something on this scale took so long to happen.

Who to blame? Republicans and Democrats have both pursued broadly the same foreign policies, so they are both to blame for the causes of terrorism (as it relates to us). The people of the US are to blame for falling for the gung-ho flag waving at every turn and allowing successive governments to do things which could only have one eventual outcome.

And that is really all that counts. Condoleeza Rice may be hung out to dry, but the reality is that even if it were somehow possible to create Fortress USA, making our own lives miserable in the process, the terrorists will still get through. The only point of fostering the illusion that our country can be made safe, is so that we accept the loss of freedoms we would otherwise protect and so that the power brokers can go on playing their games.

Someone has said this before...
and he's pretty qualified to know...

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war to whip the
citizenry into a political fervour, for patriotism is indeed a double
edged sword. It emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the
mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and
the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will
have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather the
citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up
all their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For
this is what I have done.

And I am Caesar."

-Julius Caesar (101-44 BC)
