Homosexuality now a sackable offense

Bush's administration ruled this week that it is legally acceptable to fire or demote an employee because of their sexual orientation alone . This directly contradicts Bush's pledge to treat homosexuals as equal under the law.

This is another highly alarming event in a series of homophobic rulings made by the president. In February the ACLU reported on Bush's official endorsement of a constitutional amendment to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples, which would write discrimination and religious dogma into the core principles of America. It goes without saying that this must be prevented.

As a protest to the dispute over homosexual marriages, Benton County in Oregon has banned all marriages - heterosexual and homosexual - until a decision is reached on the issue. Commissioner Linda Modrell was quoted as saying "It may seem odd, but we need to treat everyone in our county equally." I fully approve of this novel method of protesting an increasingly absurd situation and hope that the point is not missed by those in power.

Sorry to say that judges and Mayors are not in a possion to determine which laws to obey and which to ignor. Judges interpret the law within its context and the mayor enforces the law with the police deptarment. Let the legislature make the laws, if the voting people of a given state, wish to acknowlegde same sex marriage allow for the process to work. Once you start this road during an election year you force the President and the presidential canidate to make a choice based on his poll numbers. You set your own cause back when you force the current President and a possible future president not to support you. Sorry but the gay community made a huge political mistake by not waiting till after the November election.
