Homosexuality now a sackable offense
Bush's administration ruled this week that it is legally acceptable to fire or demote an employee because of their sexual orientation alone . This directly contradicts Bush's pledge to treat homosexuals as equal under the law.
This is another highly alarming event in a series of homophobic rulings made by the president. In February the ACLU reported on Bush's official endorsement of a constitutional amendment to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples, which would write discrimination and religious dogma into the core principles of America. It goes without saying that this must be prevented.
As a protest to the dispute over homosexual marriages, Benton County in Oregon has banned all marriages - heterosexual and homosexual - until a decision is reached on the issue. Commissioner Linda Modrell was quoted as saying "It may seem odd, but we need to treat everyone in our county equally." I fully approve of this novel method of protesting an increasingly absurd situation and hope that the point is not missed by those in power.
