CCbill/Epoch/Ibill Shaving?

Ok...

People always say that programs that use third party billers such as ccbill/epoch/ibill can still shave webmasters.

How so? Programs that were shaving the rebills have been busted. So, how else can they shave and how can a webmaster go about finding this info out? Or is it set up so that there is no way that the webmaster promoting the program can find out and continuely gets screwed.

It's not shaving.
It's scrubbing. But they do it to protect themselves and our interests.

Processors CAN'T shave.

I am not talking about scrubbing here. I am talking about shaving by the program owners. I have heard that there are features in the admin area of third party processors such as ccbill that make it so they can 'shave'. Not sure if it is true or not, but I would like to find out.

There are tons of ways to "shave". It depends on your definition. Everything from actual scripts that shave off sales and clicks, to faulty tours that lose traffic or tracking devices.

One way is through hosted galleries.

A sponsor could use a script to occasionally strip out your ref code.

They could strip out the code after every 20 clicks or randomly throught out the day, for example. They could set up the script so that the code stays there for the first 5000 views, and then takes out your ref code every 20 clicks.

I've been inside 2 ccbill backends. I've never seen a feature to shave in any way shape or form.

You can say that IBill and CCBill without a doubt are way more honest than almost all the sponsors out there.

I think faulty tours are a big one...but they are easy to spot.

in my opinion, if ibill did a 1 time 1% shave on their 720million processing for other sites, their debt would be relieved.

Fair enough, but I want to know if there is a feature inside the admin areas of ccbill etc.. that make is so the program owners can 'shave' the webmasters sales. They obviously won't have a admin area that allows you to enter ___% to shave. But supposedly there are other way that they can do it. This is what I am trying to figure out.

There's already documented evidence of something similar with Soul Cash from last year, but their explanation was that a hacker modified scripts to funnel traffic into his account...

The majority of "shaving" as in losing sales is "accidental" or by terms (listed or not) I believe, i.e. with traffic leaks on the tour, sale counts only if member stays for so and so long, counting germany and netherland as non-billable third world countries and redirecting them, etc. etc.

Good to hear. Now if others can back up your statement webmasters wouldn't be so skeptical of third party processors.

in the ccbill admin you can set a percentage for each referred sale to go to the referrer....you can modify that individually if you want.
the referrer can see this and know what percentage they are set at when they log in.

however, there is no such thing as a shave feature in the admin.

Easy. Do a cron job to change the SU page to not include the ref codes for 10% of the time. Seen it myself.

I noticed I convert like crazy using programs with third party processors compared to sites that use their own affiliate programs. I have no proof about shaving but it's been like that for 3 years so in my mind I've always felt alot of programs shave.

Yeah, that's pretty much the same as the hosted gallery way I mentione earlier. But this one affects everyone.

I've used CCBill and IBill for sites in the past. The only thing close to a setting available for shaving is the ability to limit the number of rebills affiliates can collect.

IE, Affiliates only get credit for first rebill and none after that.
