Does anyone know the real reason why it goes on and off?

I heard it crashed once because someone was fucking with it but it seems like a standard thing now.

i can't be curious who and how anyone would abuse the search option in such an extent that the board administrator would choose to turn it off?

if you want to do denial of service attack on gfy, you could have a whole lot of computers perform simultaneous searches etc. this will overload the server.

this is probably what has happened so it is shut down... but it could be anything.
