photoslop was originally created for manipulating pixels
ie. bitmap artwork adobes other product - illustrator - was created for manipulating vector artwork as of late the lines have blurred but that is the history and why most feel strongly about your comment ![]() |

I dont think it sucks for vector work, but Fireworks is better for vector work.

You can draw a vector path or shape in Photoshop about the same as Illustrator, but you can't do a hell of alot with it once you've made one.

Text-on-path, gradient mesh, symbols, etc - these are vector tools that makes Illustrator shine - though it's still pretty rare I find myself using it. Granted, I still use PS7. I know PS-CS has text-on-path and maybe other vector features I'm not aware of so my opinion may be moot. |

But the file must be huge for print like 100 MB if it is A4 size and it is quite a new feature in photoshop while in Illustrator and FreeHand one could do great vector files which were much smaller in file size and perfect.

That's some good work but filesize and ease of use I think is why people prefer the other tools. Personally before I went full time on Adobe, I was using Fractal Painter which was doing excellent vector work in '96, as well as natural media effects and animation.

well vector is vector - if u can produce a vector piece of work in Photoshop that's fine, but most printers will want it in AI or EPS format. I'm no expert on printing, maybe these days PSD files are more commonplace in print shops since Photoshop added real vector tools. File size is friggin meaningless these days in graphics - not talking about web graphics of course.
you used a graphic tablet to produce this piece? snobbery exists in every profession, those Illustrator snobs are what are called 'art fags' who have that superior attitude when it comes to software and other tools. Tell them you use PaintshopPro and see their reaction.

because its a raster software - the edges are not smooth like Illustrator or Quark - specially when you make the image size bigger.

you guys are wrong - PS is NOT a vector based software - is a raster based software - there are no vectors in PS - Illustrator is vector - do you guys even know what the difference is?
maybe you guys are talking a bout using the bessier curve? the pen tool? PS and Illustrator have them both - but the difference is how each software makes the image PS uses pixels- thats why the edges are not smooth, specially when image is enlarged Illustrator uses vectors- it plots points(like a graph) and connects them - for example a circle is 4 points plotted and connected then curved- when you enlarge the image/shape the plotted points get further/larger keeping the smooth shape and no pixelation/bluriness
