Ok, about this whole pagerank hype that is going on...

I asked this before in one the million pr threads but didnt get any answers.

How important is a high pr?

Lets say you are #5 on google for "tit fucking" and get 200 hits a day for that but you have a pr 0, what happens if you are upgraded by google to a pr 3 or 5 or whatever.

People are going nuts over prs lately, a high pr is THE thing to have but what exactly does it do? How important is it really?

I know nothing about se's so someone explaint it please.

Thanks.

I think when your pr gets high enough it means a certain googlebot comes around your site more.

PageRank determins how important your site is compared to other sites listed for the keyword(s). But it does not always determine the results by all mean. it's just one of the many ways google returns results. read more here http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html

So is the hype justified? Is it like one of the most important things to have when it comes to google or just something that everybody picked up as being important while they have no clue.

Page Rank is used to determine the popularity of a website. Links from a site to another can be seen as a vote. A link from a high PR site weights more than a link from a low PR site.

The Anatomy of a Search Engine

This is the original paper published by the google founders. It explains the idea behind Page Rank pretty well.

A higher Page Rank will definitely help you to rank better in the SERPs.

However, Page Rank is not everything
... and it is getting less important recently ...

It's important and will help you rank higher than other sites that are equal to you on all other levels of the algorithm except pr, but it's not as important as having a lot of keyword targeting inbound links. From what i know, pr partly determines how often and deep you're spidered. But the way things are going it wont exist for much longer or atleast will work a lot differently.

pr seems to be the icing on the cake, great, but not as good without the cake.

Well everybody acts like its the cake itself. Not just the icing.

And i simply have a feeling that all those same guys who go totally crazy about it dont even know what pr does...and now it doesnt seem THAT important at all.

Thanks for the answers.

having a lot of IBL (in bound links) from high PageRank sites with your keyword(s) in the anchor text is quite healthy ...
