You should in vest in gold and sliver coins and hold on to them for at least 5-10 years.

Invest in land in northern florida. South florida is getting congested and people are moving north.

I just bought a $200,000 home. Great investment.

Don't let it just sit in the bank. Invest it in something.
Leave the bonds and the cd's alone for now.

If you don't know how to invest, don't invest (like in real estate, stocks)... Just go conservative, 2.6$ mill canadian isn"t something you want to lose.

That is going to be hard to live off of the rest of your life. Even if you get 10% return you would still have to work. 140k could get you by now but in 5 years you would be starving. So invest it in your house and then the market. A nice big index fund. Then you have zero worries about the future and the present is better.

I also like the hookers and beer idea. Set aside 50-100k and just blow it. That way you won't whine about how little impact this money has ahd on you.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather... I would have to aggree with most of the ppl in here and say realistate. you can buy a house and rent it out.

I know that in canada you can get from $1000.00 per month just for a 2 bdroom house and the person renting it pays the utillitys.

not a bad return if you buy the house cheap.

You really don't have much to work with, but a good formula since you're young, is half conservative investments, like real estate, solid equities, about 30% into some higher yielding deals with moderate risk, and 20% of it into totally high risk deals.

Good luck. Don't forget to give some to charity. That is always a good thing to do.

Sorry about your grandfather.

id go out and buy a book "the millionaire next door"

to keep your spending in check.

buy some rental properties, give some to your bank manager to invest(always good to have them with you)

small business? check out a quik lube or a storage facility.

for both you will almost never have to be there

Thanks for the sympathy everyone, unfortunately it won't be that easy since i learned most of it won't be reachable in quite a few years and it's actually controled by my father.

You know what?
It's better that way, i'm too young to think about retirement, i'd probably shoot myself of boredom.

Felix Leclerc one day sang: The best way to kill a man is to pay him to not work.

I believe it's true.
So sorry folks i won't get that much, it's a fuckin downer to me, but in a way i'll probably live a happier life. I have so much in front of me to accomplish.

Keep hitting me up on ideas tho, i don't have that much to invest unfortunately, maybe a few 10k's.

I was surprised at my grandfather to just give money away like this, it's not his style since all his life he's been a hard worker, now it makes more sense. Hell at 84 he was still working almost every day.

So his kids have ontrol of everything.
And i don't mind.

Emma, thanks for the compliment, i'll make sure to pass it along to my girlfriend. Did you attend one of her classes?

Drewkole, if you met me in life you'd think i'm very different, i come here to vent off mostly.

Everyone's sympathy really touched me, thank you very much.
And sorry for misleading you.

i was looking into purchasing a franchise awhile back and mcdonalds came to mind. but i then read somewhere that if you want to open up a mcdonalds, one of the requirements is to actually work at your purchased mcdonalds, not just buy it and hand it off to some manager to run for you. i guess they want you to know your own store inside and out

"Felix Leclerc one day sang: The best way to kill a man is to pay him to not work."

I been working on this for years.

Its along the lines of killing the "dream".
This happens to artists and creatives all the time.

All the struggle all the work and once the strife is over the artist dies.
Figuratively speaking, or actually sometimes they self destruct.

In otherwards I know that if I became filthy rich I would probably end up washed out, the struggle would be gone, the challenge of living would be killed and with that my own end.

Like i said before, i let wishful thinking mislead me, i'm not the only one getting it. Most of it will be split among many people and i'll probably see only a small fraction of that money.

Thanks for the sympathy and i will strive to become like my grandfather, hard working and honest, whose family and friends always came before money.

I will also try not to make fun and write hurtful comments about people.

No one wins in destructive criticism

Hire a personal financial advisor... most are free.. as they make money off of your money that is invested.. but they do this for a living.. so they are normally in touch with the markets...

or invest in your self.. by doing real estate.. or small businesses.. like franchises..
