So which sponsors will step up to the plate and....

actually spend money on a cert so affiliates can sleep well at night?

With the alarming rate of identity theft and the ease of capturing non-encrypted data online, I vow to never sign up for another sponsor that asks for my SSN/TAX ID on a non-secure page.

Take your http:// signup pages and shove them up your ass.

Sponsors -- what's your excuse for not spending $39 and encrypting affiliates private data?

US citizens need to provide either a SSN or TAX ID #.

Being in TO and not knowing your citizen status... I'm not quite sure how that would effect you.

Sponsor picked at random:

That may be fine and good, but poor kids with good credit scores will help a crook more than 'rich' people maxed out.

You disappoint me 12clicks.

You actually think is good business practice to ask people who would become your 'sales force' for personal data online without any sort of encryption?

Yes I do because its completely irrelevant.
I've provided mine hundreds of times. there just isn't anyone out there trying for that info.

That's your opinion... I see it as a security risk.

If I didn't have any assests to protect do you honestly think I would care? I have made a business decision not to do buiness with people that pass my info plain text on the internet.

You may think that's alarmist and wrong, but it's not your decision to make.

I say,"no"

It's good to know you can't afford the $39 a year for a chained cert...

unencrypted data in a http:// access especially entering your SSN into it is a bit risky, You would think some of the main sponsors would https and other encryption types

What are your arguments against secure registration you blathering fuckwit? Identity theft doesn't happen and is not something you should worry about?

I know 30 Russians that would disagree and say you should.

Funny how much we agree... guess it's lost on this point.

Their is a bigger chance of someone hacking in and stealing the information from the database, than getting the information from a non secure sign-up form, after all the form posts directly into the database, on the same machine, not much of a chance of someone ripping that from a packet sniff which doesn't go over a network.

Yes, I know that. And, the info is only needed from US citizens/corps.

What I'm asking broke is what does he think of non-US sponsors? (eg. any sponsor in Canada, who by the way are now governed by newly passed Privacy Laws).

For someone to sniff the data from a signup form they would have to have a machine/router on the bitstream. (ISPs/government/sysadmins) The average joe is not going to be able to sniff the information.

If those are the people ripping the information anyway, it wont mater if it is SSL protected.

Just an update that CE Cash is secure, both when you signup for an account and also when you check your stats.

Also CE Cash does not ask for a SS# when you signup.

Have a great weekend everybody,

This thread has inspired me....

To not accept checks from any sponsors that do not have it hand delivered by a certified messenger boy.

There are just too many people out there, that might open up my mail, and get my name, address, and account # for various purposes. =(

Becoming a hobbit is the only answer.
