I need a simple php script that searches a .txt file and displays the data accordingly

I want people to look for a store within their area. They enter a zip/post code and up come any stores within that area. It might be none, one or any other number. I'd like to display the business name, address, phone number and email address.

If there is a business in area 2000, I'll have to source the surrounding areas and put them as result areas too. There might be up to 20 areas that i want this business to be listed in. That is quite and area and that's why there might be more than one displayed depending on the overlap.

If there is no business in an area i need to have a message displayed that states that there is no listing in that area.

Can this be done in php?
How much will it cost without the entries? (I can fill the .txt file as long as you provide me with the format)
How long will it take from the go ahead?
Do you take paypal?

Leave you contact details here

You're better off doing that with mysql if you want it to be searchable... but it is simple.

Well if he wants to add relational search later on (for more searchable fields that just location) it's going to be a lot more scalable than using a text file... and for a lot of data it's going to be quicker to pass the operation off to mysql rather than including a text file every time a search happens... JMO of course.

I agree, mysql is the best way to go when searching for stuff within a database, easier to backup and it's generally faster then searching a lot of flat file db's (.txt files). Mysql all the way on that.

i agree, mysql would be the best for this situation, unless there was only a small number of items, then it wouldnt make much difference
