How do you lock up your car?

Ever noticed everyone has a different style when they leave their car?

Some press the button and watch the door lock go in (I do this except at home)

Some walk away, turn around, then press their button

Others just walk off and casually press the button in their pocket without looking back

How do YOU do it?

BTW: ever considered that an actuator on a door might fail, and it actually stays open? If your locks are fully internal then the only way you'll know is if you try all of the doors from the outside...

I had some bastard try to force open my drivers side lock (the only external lock)... this was on a main road between 12-2am, just near a POLICE STATION! They've probably got this method down to a fine art so that it just looks like they are having a bit of trouble with their key...

Normally the lock has a silver plate with a little hinged lid that opens as you push the key in. The screwdriver ripped that out so the guts of the lock are exposed. It still worked fine, but I had to get it fixed so it didn't tempt anyone else.

I press a button and could care less how I am standing and, if someone steals my car, the insurance company better come threw.

I leave the key in the ignition. Sometimes I just throw it in the center console. Seriously. My last car was an M3...I had to lock it up everywhere, and worry about it a lot of times. I'm taking a break from that for a while.

It's nice.

Mine has an integrated immobiliser too. The ignition system cannot be be electrically hotwired - the barrel has infrared sensors that send an encrypted code to the ECU to disable the immobiliser - but you can still start it if you can manage to turn the inside of the ignition barrel by brute force... just like they did with my door lock.

no, I never considered it because it's a brand new truck so they better not fail. And if they ever do, a.) I have good insurance. & b.) It's an island. How far can they really go?

I don't lock my car around town, but if I go into Atlanta I have a keypad I use. Unless I'm carrying my pocketbook, I always leave the keys in the car and use the keypad to lock and unlock it. When it's parked at home it's unlocked and the keys, my wallet and my gun are all in it, lol!

BTW, most remotes have a programming option to keep the horn from blowing if you want to change it.

And before you get excited about the insurance company paying off a stolen car, call them and ask them how much they'd pay for your car if it was stolen. It's usually not a pretty amount.

I don't lock my car. Bad guys take one look at my ride and think "poor bastard". You just can't beat that kind of security.

since my door has no outside handles or keyhole locks I just shut the door and don't worry about it. The only way in is with a wireless entry that pops the door

The truck has a beep and it also locks itself after 20 minutes of being unlocked and the engine off.

I also never have a ton of gas in it, so, you aint getting far....

the worst one is with the new cards that make the car unlock as you approach it and unlock as you come to get in.

how would you check its locked, because everytime you go near it unlocks

dodgy
