Looking for good "industry" causes to donate proceeds...

I'm going to try selling a chunk of my better domain names on GFY, and am interested in using some of the proceeds (not sure how much that might be yet) to donate to solid organizations looking after our interest.

The recent patent fights come to mind, what would be the best organizations for this cause?
-Spike/Homegrown?
-Fight the Patent?

I'm definitely looking for anything that helps protect our freedom/speech and/or helps fight against these legal "industry terrorists" looking to make a buck off bogus patents.

I appreciate your suggestions and opinions...

Thanks!
Rick

I'll keep Extreme in mind, but all I know about them is what I saw on the PBS special over a year ago. These videos really push the envelope HARD, and it's tough to say whether they're a good influence on this industry and/or a company we should all proudly stand behind. I don't know the guys very well, so I can't judge them as people however.

I'm surprised at the lack of replies so far... I think it's important to be aware of organizations we can help fund for everyones interest. There's got to me at least a half dozen out there fighting for a good cause...

The biggest threat to the industry at the moment is Acacia, so giving to the guys who are fighting them would be in my opinion the best cause.

Email Spike at Homegrown to get the address of the lawyers who are representing the fighters. I know it sucks to give to lawyers but there is not alternative.

Or ICQ me I have the address at work, I'm at home now.

Take the money, hire a full time lawyer on salary, and tell him to just start suing people for civil liberties violations. If he's good, he can turn a profit, which can be used to fund more full time lawyers suing over civil liberties violations.

Hard to believe no one has yet to mention the Free Speech Coalition, a very worthwhile group for any adult webmaster to belong (and donate) to. In addition to helping out adult webmasters, these are the guys who are usually there to help small-town video store operators and rural strip clubs when the sexual socialists (Republicans) come knocking.

I don't think fight the patent is taking donations anymore . So I'd give it to spike if I were you

But if he was still taking donations I'd be giving every penny I have to give away to this guy . He made many great posts

The Free Speech Coalition is a powerful force and they have been around for a long time, serving the adult video industry. The adult internet is a growing part of what they fight for. I suggest you give them some support. Larry Flynt donates a lot of money to help the FSC fight censorship and unfair prosecutions.

The Free Speech Coalition beat John A-s-h-c-r-o-f-t in a Supreme Court case a couple years ago.

Your money couldn't be any better spent than fighting A-s-h-c-r-o-f-t.

So what industry have I been in for the last 27 years?

I don't know what you've been doing for 27 years but I can tell you now you're not in the adult content industry. If that's what you think you're in, then you'll be out of business soon enough.

Your content business may provide content, but the bottom line is that your service is a function of many factors. One of those is trends in content. But your customers are more important than your shoots.

If Visa tightens the leash, you lose sales.

If Georgie tightens the leash, you lose sales.

If Johnnie persecutes people, you lose sales.

When sales slump for the summer, you lose sales.

If congress enacts antispam laws, you lose sales.

Your business is a function of so many factors. Acacia is only one of them, but it's a minor one.

You're a service company in the adult industry. And if you were a really good one you'd care about every single factor that affects any aspect of the adult industry, and not just the ones that affect you directly. Perhaps you do, I don't know. We'll discuss this at the next show in Amsterdam. Until then, figure out which girls you'd like to present to me.

I e-mailed spike, so hopefully he can give me more information on how this is progressing and whether they're still seeking funding. Lawyers fighting to "protect" our rights from greedy scum deserve every penny and ounce of respect. Spike is good people!

What's up Rick!

I'm not saying KEEP the profit - and you're not suing PEOPLE you're suing corporations and government. Buying lawyers by the year is a LOT cheaper than by the hour. So you get your own, unleash them on all the obstacles, and if they win, take the investment and use it to pay that lawyer's salary for the next year - or pay for another. Imagine the wrongs you could right this way. You could do so much more with this strategy than you could by throwing money at an organization.

I'm talking about donating pocket change unfortunately, not enough to hire a full-time lawyer.

I guess that's why I posted this thread, to get "honest" organizations or even independent causes that are beneficial for this business and/or our civil liberties. I have my own business to deal with, so it's good there are others looking after us. Now's the time to support those causes.
