Western Digital is better imho.

But then, all are crap if you can't find the updates to your BIOS
and your current setting allow a max of 137GBs.

Finally found my updates today

hmmm..... I've never tried Maxtors before, so I thought I'd give them a shot.... I have had Western DIgitals and Seagates fail on me often though.

never had an IBM go bad though..... but I really needed the 250GB's

gotta second that, i have seen more Maxtor drives go tits up in the last year than any other brand, especially in rackmount servers... they seem to die a very early heat-death compared to any other common brand (heh, even Micropolis!)... do a chargeback and don't sign for the package..!

my 120gb maxtor came with a floppy which had 'maxblast' on it.

give that a shot next time, it works wonders.

I have two dead maxtors on my desk right now. One is the 250 SATA and the other is a 300 ATA133.

My admin just lost a maxtor 40 a couple days ago.

We have moved Maxtor off of our list of approved vendors.

you must have never had any of the GXP series IBM drives... they pretty much drove IBM out of the HD biz... WD does make a 250Gb though, although i have a dead one right here on my desk. Seagate is my poison of choice at the moment..

hmmm..... this is not good news.

How hard do you work 'em? Cuz I won't do much writing to them at all.... I pretty much fill 'em up all in one shot, and after that only ever read from them.

Ahh, makes sense. My 2 are internal with a 3rd being just my OS.
For the longest time I was left with half the storage on each, that
is until about 2 hours ago.

Now I've got the OS drive partitioned into 2 125GB chunks and
the other 2 partitioned into 1/4's

Just yesterday I started crashing dues to some bios issues and
finally today (after 5 crashes) went looking for the updates l0l

I R Lazy heh

yeah no kidding.... what the hell happened to building something that lasts? I've thrown away probly 6 harddrives in the last 9 months. I remember when the 1 gig drive first came out... it was like, the uber coveted crowned jewel of harddrives.... lol... but they lasted forever! I think I still have a few kickin' around here somewhere.
