I feel that.

Now... on to the most important question/statement of this thread:

If you wanted to, could you go to the bank ask them to rope off a 10x10 area for you for 20 minutes so that you can spell out....

"MONEY = HAPINESS"

...using ten million dollars worth of 100 bills so that you can take a picture?

Just tell them if they don't let you do it, then you need to pull the money and take it to a bank that better understands your needs.

:)

Its more of the fact that if your poor but you have enough. You arent having to worry about money. When you have to worry about money it becomes harder to be happy because when you worry you become stressed.

Maybe a personality thing, maybe situational.

But if you're happy you're not gonna worry about money.

quiet 03-08-2004 03:44 AM

and just to echo some others in this thread: relationships become much more complicated with the addition of money, in my experience.

relationships were easy before money ;)

But with money, you have the option to pretend as if you have none... so you can have this "easier" type of relationship whenever you want, while still having the security in the back of your mind that your a multi millionaire :)

Without money... you just have to roll with the punches and take what life gives you.

plyre 03-08-2004 03:49 AM

which kind of sum you want to take me back while I was young ?
I guess it's irrelevant.
Happiness ? Is it relly exist ?

Same here, but I could never live with someone long enough for common law to kick in -- and I'll never marry again... what a mess that is.

"Do you goBigtime, agree to have sex only on evenings when the moon is full during the window of 9-11pm -- and only if you plan to stay in bed and pretend like you're not an insomniac afterwards?" Um.. no. I don't.

I agree. It's great to have money, but without someone to help spend it it's just not the same.

Money = Freedom
I've heard that before and I agree. I think it holds alot more than money = happiness. Money only enhances happiness by giving you the freedom to further explore and share it, with out the happiness to begin with, money only creates a temporary delusion.

I second this wholeheartedly.

Money causes incredible stress in an relationship. "Why can't you buy me this? You made $X today!" Oh can you pay for the mortgage this month babe, I spent my money on shoes and you are rich anyway.

Etc.

And before people jump in and say only golddiggers/etc will do that, think again. It happens to everyone, no matter what sex.

not quite what i meant. but certainly we can both agree that money can seriously complicate a relationship...

Money does not equal happiness. But the success of your endevours which leads to getting money can bring happiness. Knowing you have achieved something can bring it's own pleasure.

However before Eva arrived I was making money, achieving my goals but still not happy. Now I think I would be happy if we were living in a bedsit with no money, but have no intention of testing that theory. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

You have never met Eva, she is loath to spend money. Even in Thailand with clothing 20% of the price it is here she was still debating whether to get the black or the white top, me I just bought one in every colour.

For the last 40-odd years, the views of Frederick Herzberg (a psychologist) and Abraham Maslow (a behavioural scientist) have been the most often quoted in business literature. Although expressing themselves in slightly different ways, these gentlemen maintain that the absence of money may make people unhappy, but once people have enough for their basic needs, it isn't even a motivating factor, let alone a cause of happiness.

You don't need to be an employer for very long before you recognize the truth of their claims. A pay rise will put a smile on someone's face, but more for the recognition it is seen to represent than for its own sake.

As you make more money, the goalposts move: the material things that give us the most pleasure are those we can afford only occasionally. We dream about things that are out of reach. With wealth, we worry about different things, but we don't worry less or about fewer things. And although it is a cliché, it is still true that many of life's greatest pleasures have nothing to do with money at all.

Would I rather have money than not? Of course. But the main reason is social conditioning. Money suggests success and its absence, failure.

Interesting, I found it to be the opposite. Most people I know with money are very impatient and demanding. The more they have, the more they go in that direction and it tends to ruin relationships.

I guess you need to expand on which level of happiness.

It does make most people happy in the respect of more freedom, fun stuff and choices. But beyond that, its questionable if it makes a big difference or like I said prior, makes your relationships even harder.

I call it the disease of entitlement.
