Copycats within a niche
Have there ever been lawsuits or even just bad feelings among webmasters who copy another's idea?
Example.. the MILF explosion that took off a few years ago. Or the BangBus style videos. Or several other sub-niches that everyone has their own flavor of. Does it hurt or help business overall?

Wasn't the whole MILF explosion brought on by American Pie making it a part of the mainstream American vocabulary?

Amateur Pages - Amateur Beaver
Etc, etc, etc.. It's pretty much been happening within everything since the beginning. Starts out.. indexes of pics then lists of pics on pages with galleries sites with links to other sites with pics AVS Paysites pic posts thumbnails niche thumbnails series thumbnails thumbnail gallery posts and on, and on... There are always copycats as soon as the next thing comes out. Most times people deal with it, and they're already working on the next thing. Sometimes it does throw a wrench in the gears though.

It can be hard to be the first one out of the gate on a new niche. Sure, you've got the novelty factor. But, you don't have the assuredness that it's a niche that will work. On the other hand, if you put out something that's been done before, you have the advantage of watching those who went before and learning from their mistakes. A very important advantage of copying something that has already been done is that you have others that you can trade traffic with. It's easier to find good trades in an established niche than it is in a brand new one.

At any rate.. does the proliferation of a sub-niche or style of presenting adult entertainment have any affect on the overall profitability of that style?

Yeah, it does. When you're the only one doing it, you hold all the cards so it can be much more profitable. But if you're consistent, and the idea you're pursuing is valid, you can continue to profit long after the original launch. It depends on how good you are at it, and how good your competition is.

I think On-top is totally correct.
Copycat stuff is painful when your niche and what you are working to create both actually really matter to ya. May not impact the bottom line at all, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make a creative person feel bad.
