"The 19 states making the first stab are adding a line to their income tax returns asking tax payers to 'fess up to what they bought on the Net (or through a catalog, for that matter) and to pay the sales tax due. If you don't have the receipts handy, they'll just take a likely amount based on your income.
Or you could just say "zero" on the line, which a lot of people will undoubtedly do (rightly or wrongly). "

What did you put for that line?

Bullshit, you think anyone is actually going to put down what they purchase on the internet? And secondly it will have some effects on what people buy because now you have..

The product cost
Shipping and handling
AND sales tax

Mineswell take your lazy ass down to the 7 eleven and buy it because that is just fucked

Isn't it the 2nd time yo u post this thread ?

I don't see why people should be taxed on internet sales . When you pay your taxes, it helps you at the same time . States build your own roads, offer you services. If I'm in canada and I pay 7 % taxes to california, I don't benefit at all of the taxes i'm paying . I wouldn't pay any fucking taxes for another country I'd just skip the item . no way I'm giving free money to a forgein governement.

i've already noticed that a lot of places i buy stuff from on the net already put that cost in there...i don't even count on the tax savings anymore.

But sales taxes won't be the end of it.

Internet telephony is likely to be a target. After all, regular phone calls are taxed... why not Internet calls?

And e-mail. Some folks, notably Microsoft's Bill Gates, are suggesting a type of tax or fee that may be the cure for spam.

And you know what? If the government needs to regulate the Internet more -- porn, scams and terrorism come to mind -- Congress will want a way to pay for it.

I remember reading a book at least 6 years ago predicting this sort of thing. It also said that it would lead to a revolution. I say grab your gun, Join your local Mulisha,& get ready. Oh, & turn over all of your sites to me.

You're reading the wrong things into that. The "tax" or "fee" Microsoft is proposing isn't monetary, it's based on processor cycles, not money.
