The point is this. This is an industry where it doesn't matter what you wear to be in this industry. Credentials are measured in dollar signs, not clothing or initials after your name. You'd be surprised how many successful, highly successful high school dropouts are amongst those who have post graduate degrees. What we wear might not be acceptable to certain clubs. When that happens, and I've seen it happen....those webmasters head on back to the Venetian, plop down several thousand dollars and rent a suite, open it up to those who don't care about a dress code and party until the wee hours of the morning.

Why don't everyone just admit that they have absolutely no taste.
One can get rich, but class and taste are a totally separate thing. Cultureless fucks. There. . ![]() |

I see. A pre-requisite to having money and power is a desire to look like you have nothing. I suppose to be successful I should: 1. Stop showering 2. Dress in the cheapest, most ill-fitting clothing possible 3. Stop exercising I thought pride was only abandoned by content? I suppose nobody is safe in this industry. As far as gold diggers and such, I don't spend much money on women. I'm pretty cheap when it comes to that. |

You'd be surprised how many successful, highly successful high school dropouts are amongst those who have post graduate degrees. I'm a dropout myself, and I make more than all of my graduating class. ( Save for a few who have taken over the business of their parents. Perhaps there are a few others who make more, but from the little research I have done, nobody is making more. Not that I've bragged about it, I was just curious to see how everyone turned out ) I'm shocked that so many people in such an industry based on vanity, would ignore their own appearances. We're not talking anything normal here, folks. We're talking stand out of a crowd type of bad haircuts, poor clothing, and terrible postures. Come on now, are we webmasters, or players of Magic: The Gathering during lunch hour? What we wear might not be acceptable to certain clubs. When that happens, and I've seen it happen....those webmasters head on back to the Venetian, plop down several thousand dollars and rent a suite, open it up to those who don't care about a dress code and party until the wee hours of the morning. How many webmasters would goto a nightclub in the first place? Alot of them aren't exactly socialites. Renting a suite and paying some girls to come party with them is exactly what I would expect to happen. |

There's a reason many of us choose this industry and it's not to be a fashion plate. I've got to go nurse my honey's horrible hangover...from our night out on the town....wearing jeans and tee shirts...LOL. You have a good one, huggles...see you at the next conference. I might just be the one in my slippers, jammies and sweats.

Hey what's wrong with being a gallery submitter?
It may not make you a millionaire, but it pays better than nearly any day job you'll get with a degree.... (NEARLY any) and it takes less time. |

Like I said, when I'm at the Venetian I'm not going to wear clothes that look like I'm going to paint my house. Also, when I goto dinner, I'm not going to wear camo pants and a wife beater. You are missing the point, if you judge people by the way they dress, you are a fool. No, if you try and say you absolutely never judge anyone on appearance, you are a liar. BTW, I am not debating you....you were debating another poster. |

You're all over the place here, Huggles....
Your original post had nothing to do with showering or hygiene. "Why do most of you dress like: 1. Your mom thinks your 12 when baggy shirts and sweats were in style 2. You shop at Value Village 3. Your appearance does not matter, you have charisma 18 and a pendant of human charming +3 This is an observation over the course of the last year or so. Some webmasters actually seem to care what they look like, alot however, do not." From this we've gone to hygiene and hair cuts. Since I have fabulous red hair, I'm very vain about it and I go to the hairdresser often. I also get my nails done and pedicures. But, for me, that's a reward for the sixteen fucking hours I put into this business day in and day out. Others buy clothes. My $200. hairstyling, with highlights, costs more than my six dollar tee shirts. I spend more on pedicures than I do on clothes. The two carat diamond on my finger goes as well with sweats as it does with a gown...which, by the way, I bought for my first Vegas adventure....and, recently, just sold on Ebay, with the tags still attached. You also talked about shopping at Value Village, as if that's a crime against humanity. it is; but, that's beside the point. I think your third point was probably the most interesting. To some, appearance is ALL that matters. Hardly a way to judge whether or not that person is someone with whom to do business. To others, appearances are deceptive. The guy who is wearing a torn sweatshirt, with shaggy hair may be someone for whom you want to do business. War Child. I read really really carefully. Perhaps you should read really really carefully. The original point, more or less, was why does everyone dress like slobs? Read the first post. I have it above.

What matters from the above? If you're hardly a slob, what point are you trying to make about other webmasters? You also talked about shopping at Value Village, as if that's a crime against humanity. it is; but, that's beside the point. Looking like you've bought the cheapest, most ill-fitting clothing from 1979 and had left it on your bathroom floor for 3 days before wearing it IS a crime. I think given the choice I would rather talk to someone dressed a little more presentable first. |

Impress yourself, not others.
When I walk into a room no one takes a second look. When I discuss business with others they tend to listen. |
