Attention rich webmasters:

Why do most of you dress like:

1. Your mom thinks your 12 when baggy shirts and sweats were in style

2. You shop at Value Village

3. Your appearance does not matter, you have charisma 18 and a pendant of human charming +3

This is an observation over the course of the last year or so. Some webmasters actually seem to care what they look like, alot however, do not.

graphicsbytia 02-28-2004 12:32 PM

hmmm

swedguy 02-28-2004 12:34 PM

I believe you will not be the next Anthony Robbins.

I'm not even saying to spend much money on clothing. I'm just saying when your attire consists of a baggy, faded shirt and some ill fitting pants with dirty white runners, you need to do something about it. Come on, put aside a couple hundred a month to buy a couple pairs of decent pants, and a few nice shirts. Please. In Vegas alot of the time people's clothing made me think of a Dungeons and Dragons convention.

You sound like a girl.

are you?

if not... shut up.

If so... shut up and show your tits.

chrisp420 02-28-2004 12:45 PM

who gives a fuck what people wear.

:2 cents:

KRL 02-28-2004 12:46 PM

Because we have that choice.

Somedays dressed GQ in Armani.

Somedays dressed in old sneakers, shorts and a worn frayed shirt.

One of coolest things about having money is one day you wake up and you come to the realization you don't care anymore what people think about how you look. GFY. No need to impress anyone but yourself if you so choose.

Most guys I've met with 8 figure net worths and up look like they don't have a dime to their name.

Its quite ironic, as the more money you get the less you care.

Murphy_Dog 02-28-2004 12:46 PM

It's because we work and don't have to play the roll of some punk ass wannabe.

I dress sharp when i need to, but its sure not to impress the kiddies.

Raven 02-28-2004 12:48 PM

Who am I impressing? And, why should my clothing matter.

I work in my jammies, although I've yet to wear them to a webmaster event.

My tee shirts and jeans are clean, so who the fuck cares?

The only ones who see my bank account are me and Tev.

Look around you, Huggles.

I know some extremely wealthy webmasters whose jeans are older and more comfy than mine. So what?

If I had ten, or a hundred times my monthly income, I wouldn't just start thinking dressing like I have $5 to my name is cool. Why would I want to look like a sorry sack of shit?

You'll understand when you do have hundred times your income.

MetaMan 02-28-2004 12:54 PM

BECAUSE have u seen the pics of people? notice how greasy and ugly they are. it has nothing to do with clothing, a slimeball naturally dresses like crap.

foolio 02-28-2004 12:54 PM

I like to dress in frilly outfits - they feel so nice on my skin

Here you go. This proves it perfectly.

Look at them. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. The two wealthiest men in the world.

Doubt it. I've already gone up 10 times from what I had before, and my tastes haven't changed. I don't REALLY want a Ferrari, I'm happy with my Supra and S2000. However, the idea of going out in public wearing something I wouldn't let my dogs chew up is abhorrent. It's the same reason why I don't type like this:

see if u would read something like this then u might think some1 doesn't put much work into the english languange almost like maybe they dont care really its not very becoming of someone to appear that they dont even try sure maybe if you are rich you would be like yeah i dont care whatever whatever but once you stop caring where do you draw the line why not just wear same thing every day of your life if you really dont care its not a matter of NOT caring it is a matter of how much you care and some webmasters obviously care very little and it looks terrible maybe it is just my opinion but thats my 2 cents lol lol lol typing like this is fun coz i dont care either anymore LOL

These guys look like male models compared to most webmasters.

You prove MY point!

DraX 02-28-2004 01:02 PM

Yea thing about how people dresses in comparison to wealth is very intresting.

My self: I love to go around with sport clothes all the time. Only time i dress sharp is for parties dates and certain meetings.

Take care everybody

Now its time for :drinkup

KRL 02-28-2004 01:03 PM

Classic. Giorgio Armani another billionaire in his signature simple black t-shirt he nearly always wears and notice driving a 20 year old Mercedes SL.

http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.c...2899510089.jpg

Huggles 02-28-2004 01:04 PM

I'm guessing as well, that Warren Buffet and Bill Gates would wear something appropriate for the Venetian.

Many webmasters looked like they were out for a night of drinking malt liqour at the Best Western. No wait, too classy still.

Za Ha 02-28-2004 01:07 PM

Most ppl dont care how they look. I personally do but I have nothing against ppl that dont. Its a personal preference I guess.

Betcha that Merc isn't dirty, no McD's wrappers on the seat. I'm sure it's in good shape. That black shirt also probably fits well. Not to mention he's probably in good shape for an old guy. Chances are, it doesn't have a layer of dandruff and look like it's been washed half a million times in XXX strength KOLOR KILLAR bleach.

Your argument is flawed, so far. The photos you have linked to do nothing to make your point, only reinforce mine.

Post some pictures of someone rich who truely doesn't care about their appearance. Oh wait, you'd have to link webmaster pictures.

I'm not saying dress like what you make. I buy cheap clothing that looks good. That's it, I don't look for labels or anything, I just wouldn't wear clothing that would mimmick the tres chic wear of what you'd find in the average grade 7 class.

Because once you got the money, you don't care and most important you DON'T NEED to care how people think of you. You have it all and you can do all, and you have the power to choose what you want to do. If you're poor, all you do is think about how people think about you:thumbsup

I don't think I'm "so stylish" and in this thread never claimed to be.

I'm merely stating that alot of webmasters look like they were ground zero of a ratty clothing bomb. It's not about having to look sharp, it's about being at the Venetian and at least fitting in.

No, I disagree. Why doesn't Bill Gates just wear nothing then? Or why doesn't he wear a baggy shirt and sweatpants? He cares what his appearance is. I'm sure if Bill went to Circle bar he wouldn't be chilling in his sweats and ratty shirt.

The argument that when people get money that they care less is absurd. They didn't care in the first place. Find me an example of someone who went from poverty and caring out their appearance, to having money and fully letting go.

Where'd KRL go? I was hoping he'd step up with some pictures of, say, Tiger Woods dressed like he's ready to paint the house when he's at dinner somewhere.

Maybe A-rod out driving around in a K-car eating a big mac while wearing an 8-ball jacket.

WarChild 02-28-2004 01:45 PM

I have a feeling Bill Gates doesn't hold Microsoft Annual meetings in ripped wool sweat pants with an iron maiden black/white concert shirt.

He's richer than anybody here, for sure .. So he should therefore care even less than all of us, right? Yet he somehow manages to dress appropiately.

Phoenix 02-28-2004 01:47 PM

I can see your point man...i guess some people just don't care.

However most of the people who need to dress to impress ie salespeople, usually dress to fit.

One year i even wore a suit on the conventin floor, I was making jokes about myself with my buddies. I left that show with lots of business though.

I dress to look presentable in my surroundings, i do not care to make a fashion statement these days, i just try to seem presentable.

While i am not hurting for my next meal, i certainly don't have an 8 figure net worth so perhaps that is the difference.

KRL was trying to say that once people have alot of money, they don't care. I believe that people either care or they don't. Money doesn't have that big of an influence over someone. They'll dress like shit whether they are rich or poor. Same thing on the other end, they will try and dress as fashionable as they can with a budget of $10, or 10k.

Having that said, I still think webmasters dress like ass. The Circle bar looked like a soup kitchen lineup.
