:mad DirectNIC.com scum of the Universe?

Ok I guess this is going to be a poll.

I have been so busy running 3 websites, and working a string of paysites, that I completely forgotten that two of my free sites expired yesterday.

Actually I naively assumed, yes I know "Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups" from Under Siege 2, that DirectNIC.com would send me a reminder email that these two domains where about to expire.

But no freaking way! They just let them expire yesterday, without a word. I have registrering new names with GoDaddy.com and am now trying move these two shut-down sites to them too, if only !@#$!@$ DirectNIC.com had not put a !@#$!$ "grace" lock on my sites, and from there website I can't unlock them myself, so now I am waiting for their lame support to unlock them so I can move transfer them.

Early last year they stopped a site for a few days, because of then ASIC and lack of communication from them to DirectNIC.com saying that is was all a mistake.

Yikes!

Anyways, my question to your webmasters and webmistresses is what is your experience with DirectNIC.com?

I have over 700 domains at directNIC, they're awesome. I've never had any problems with them.

DirectNIC.com is the best registrar I've ever used.

They send at least 3 emails to me before my domains expire.

Oh by the way, they have automated emails sent to you to remind you that you have domains expiring. You must have them filtered out or something.

Battuss I guess you missed the point, but I do appreciate ALL comments.

You see I do have a life! Which is exactly why I forgot.

So you think it is alright for them not to send a courtesy email reminder?

Just curious...

Well maybe the email reminder was just a glitch or technical problem.

Thanks for your comment.

Agreed.....I have all my domains with them and I love that they send 90, 60, and 30 day expire notices with no fail.

They are the best ...I wouldn't switch them if someone paid me

Hmm, from all the positive replies in support of DirectNIC.com, I can see that this has either been a mistake by them, or me, or a technical communication problem.

Thanks all...

Question: Why would you rather go with DirectNIC.com than GoDaddy.com?

DirectNIC.com charges $15.00 for a one year renewal, where GoDaddy.com charges $7.95.

Anyways in my humble experience I have to say that I had best success with GoDaddy.com

They sent out emails letting you know 90, 60, 30, 15, AND 7 days before they expire.
PLUS if you let one expire they send you 2 or 3 reminders afterwards giving you the option to renew it before they let it go back onto the market where someone else can buy it.

The poll shouldn't be about Directnic, it should be about what a retard you are.

It must be a misunderstanding or an email issue. Directnic is stellar and I receive renewal reminders all the time.

Do a search here for godaddy, nothing but gripes and problems. It sounds crazy to move from directnic to godaddy!

Lenny2 is it really neccessary to write that personal crap?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways I just received the following email from DirectNIC.com:

Greetings,

Since the domains have expired, we will not be able to unlock them. You will need to renew the domains first then transfer them or wait until the domains are made available for registration in 75 days and re register them with another registrar.

Best Regards,

Brian
directNIC.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question to all you webmaster's (And please refrain from any personal accusations):

Does the above letter seem fair to you? I mean that I can't transfer the domains to a different registrar, because they expired yesterday, and I did not receive a reminder email?

DirectNIC reminds me like 5 times when a domain is going to expire starting like 6 months ahead of time. They are great.

Another vote for to DirectNIC.com! They always let me know what is going to expire and when. Maybe you gave them an e-mail you got rid of. Did that before.

Anyways Fletch XXX, and no I won't marry you, and I don't want to renew with DirectNIC.com, because GoDaddy.com is about $8.00 less per year.

And they are now forcing me to renew with them, because they won't unlock the domains.

I guess it's just me, but that seems a bit strange.

Yes it is necessary.
You felt the need to start a poll asking if Directnic was "the scum of the universe" because YOU fucked up.
Directnic is a solid, reputable company and you're trying to hurt their brand with your asinine thread/poll.

And yes the terms stated in the letter they sent you are fair. Its part of their terms and conditions which YOU should have read before registering a domain with them.

Theoretical is it not possible I di not make a mistake and DirectNIC.com did, theoretical that is?

Anyways I still not see the reason to get personal about this, even if I had made a mistake which I still can't see I have done.

I mean I started this thread to figure out if anyone else is happy with DirectNIC.com or what.

You can't transfer a domain that you don't own. Since you let it expire you technically don't own the rights to it anymore, simple as that.
You could have transferred it before it expired and it wouldn't have been a problem, now that its expired you have to renew it at Directnic to transfer it, or wait for it to be made available publicly and then register it elsewhere.

And we'll see how great you think Godaddy is the first time a spammer decides to use @yourdomain.com as a return address in the header and Godaddy shuts your site down for abuse without even investigating.

DirectNIC sends e-mails. You just have to be sure the e-mail on your domains is current.

That messes up lots of folks who have multiple e-mail accounts and then forget about them.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Go Daddy over Directnic...man you are gonna get so owned any day now. Go Daddy fucks people over on a daily basis. The Directnic thing was definitely your fault. They automatically send you notices to renew your domains, they start coming 2 months before your domain expires. They actually annoy me, because I have enough domains that I get the stupid e-mails constantly and I don't need the reminder. I log in once a month and renew a month in advance.

No its not possible. You wrote

I have been so busy running 3 websites, and working a string of paysites, that I completely forgotten that two of my free sites expired yesterday.

YOU are the one who forgot. YOU are the one who ignored the half dozen reminder emails you received letting you know that your domains were about to expire.

YOU should be on your knees thanking Directnic for putting a hold on your expired domains so that you can renew them, instead of putting them on the open market where someone else would snatch them up for sure if they had any incoming links.

I did forget the expiration date yes - My bad, ok?

And just out of curiosity, besides the SPAM issue Lenny2 talked about, how else is GoDaddy.com bad in you webmasters opinion?

Thanks

Here is some helpful advice:

Don't renew your domains, just wait until they expire and then re-register them at a different registrar.

That's the best way to do a registrar transfer.

We missed renewing a couple of our Directnic domains - instead of blaming anyone else we called ourselves idiots - renewed them and withing 24 hours they were back on line.

Directnic are rock solid - note I said they had everything fixed within 24 hours.

We have a number of domains with a much cheaper registrar. We needed to change our personal details and notified them of that about a month or so ago - whois is still showing the old details and until it gets fixed we can't move forward with our non-adult business.

You get what you pay for - you want cheap you have to put up with cheap service.

All except with Godaddy - you want to pay cheap with them then you get anally reamed as a bonus. Hope you enjoy it

I did forget the expiration date yes - My bad, ok?

And just out of curiosity, besides the SPAM issue Lenny2 talked about, how else is GoDaddy.com bad in you webmasters opinion?

Thanks
Then perhaps you should retract your "scum of the universe" statement.

The people who own directnic are friends with quite a few people who post here, you shouldn't go bashing them publicly when it was your fault to begin with.

I am not a 100% sure if you are joking, being sarcastic or what.

Anyways here's my reply:

I can't wait, I need the sites up now, so I renewed them with DirectNIC.com

Here is some helpful advice:

Don't renew your domains, just wait until they expire and then re-register them at a different registrar.

That's the best way to do a registrar transfer.

Damn, and this guy thinks I'M being mean to him

Then their mail to you must be getting filtered. They have always gotten back to me quite quickly when I've written to them.

I don't understand why someone in this industry would even be worried about 8 bucks. Geez.

Lenny2: I would appreciate, if you are going to reply again, that you FULLY read my original post.

1) I questioned you guys opinion on DirectNIC.com.

2) I did not call them "Scum of the Universe". I was upset yes.

3) I admitted in my starting post, that I forgot.

4) I said I did NOT receive any email reminders!

Thanks
