Those who saw both MYSTIC RIVER and LOST IN TRANSLATION...

Which movie did you prefer and which actor do you think is more worthy of an Oscar? Murray or Penn?

Mystic River was very disapointing.

Penn was much better in 21 Grams.

Lost in Translation was a movie lost in plot, dialogue, and acting.
Bill Murray was being no one else but himself. He didn't even have to act. It was like a bad skit from Saturday nite live in the old days. Truly was a waste of time watching it.

Sean Penn in Mystic River for sure. Wonderful performance and a great movie. Lost in translation was also good but it wasnt treading any new ground for Bill Murray as far as acting. The same could be said for Penn's performance, but it was just more intense and had more range to work with.

Bill Murray in my heart because I loved the natural performance. I like those much more than the 'look at me' ones. Penn will most likely get it though unless they are afraid of him giving a political speech.

Depp - I LOVE Depp as an actor and Pirates was fun but it wasn't an Oscar performance. He has done stuff like Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Blow and Gilbert Grape which were much moe worthy. If he wins for Pirates thay are rewarding him for coming 'back' to the mainstream and not doing independent/quirky stuff.

You clearly have neither traveled extensively or been married so you couldn't possibly seen the true genious behind the movie. I thought Murray was fantastic.

I went with two friends who had never been married and they enjoyed it but didn't see the genious in it that I did. Of course, I am also livining in a country other than my own and am with an older man. It hit me on a lot of levels.

It is a study of a relationship. Have you ever been married or been stuck alone in a different culture? If you have I don't see how you can't get it.
