Sorry to hear this, fortunately I am in good health and could have no understanding of what you are going through. Times must be tough for you, but it says a lot that you can talk openely and you are living as normal a life as you can...

My respect to you for that!

Prostock.....my mother had breast cancer and thank God, she's now in remission. She was lucky enough not to have to go through chemotherapy, but the radiation has caused a little damage. She was just given the ok (after 5 years) that all is well, however to keep checking for anything abnormal.

What's causing you to still feel sick? The medication?

Hang it there! This is not to be silly but smoking pot stops nausau.
I was never as sick as you but I have Diverticulitis before i had surgery i never could digest my food so in the morning I was always sick...a couple hits and the nausau was gone

There are doctors that will prescribe for medical needs i believe chemotherapy patients fall under that but it is difficult to find them

As many of you who've been in the business know, I'm a (colon) cancer survivor too. Luckily, mine was caught at the very early stages (just had polyps) and I still get medical checkups every 6 months, but have had no recurrences yet. I got lucky that I didn;t have to go through chemo treatments. Cancer runs rampant in my family, I've lost my grandfather to prostate cancer and my cousin (4 years youngerthan me) lost a testical to testicular cancer.

I urge everyone to go out and get checked for for prostate cancer and just generally get a physical once per year.

prostock, I'm very sorry to hear of your illness. I was amazed at how keeping a very positive attitude was and the importance of keeping my family close. It's not easy to stay positive when are sick, but try to stay focused on any positives.

Ok, so, here is my one serious post for the year...

I've had a cancer when I was younger
fortunately I was able to beat it
healthy diet and excerice to the best of your ability go a long way to helping fight that shit.

I have a close family member dying of cancer - and it's really horrible
I try to get them to the doctors but they wont go (coz they had it cut out once before but it came back)

try and get in touch with a cancer group in your area meet some other ppl who also have cancer see - good to taolk to ppl who understand and get some ideas also on how to cope etc
it really helps

Are you talking to your doctor? I had a relationship with someone years ago who battled cancer. He had a terrible time with the first surgery and round of chemo. When he was diagnosed with a metastisis, he told his doctor that he was considering not doing anything and just dying because the first round had been so bad.

His doctor was able to help us with pain management (he didn't like to take pills, so we did a lot of stuff IV through a catheter implanted just under his skin during the initial operation) and anti-nausea medication.

I learned to change how I cooked for him too. I made a lot of smaller meals and did a lot of what they did in the hospital. I made small cups of jello/pudding/chopped fruit and small servings of meats and grains and veggies. It was all about eating just a couple bites of different things at a time. Trying to eat a whole meal in one sitting was too difficult for his body to process.

Also tried to keep spicy things out and tried to only eat natural things. Not too processed like no white bread, white rice or junk food. Removing processed foods was a big help with the nausea and metal taste in his mouth after eating.

We were really surprised that there were so many things available for nausea and pain that nobody was telling us about. You've got to go in to your doctor and say "Gimme!" to get them.

Good Luck

FWIW, this article is over 4 years old and a couple of my attitudes have changed regarding the last half of the article ;-)

http://chronicles.netpond.com/110299/page4.html

but it details when I found out about my cancer and how I beat it into submission with humor (and a lot of family support)

I know exactly what you are going through.

I had 2 operations & 6 months of chemo,,followed by 1 year of radiation,, for an aggressive lymphoma that wraped it's self around the base of my brain and extended down into my lungs.

This happened 8 years go when i was 24,,,right after i got married to a nurse,,,(thank God).

I know it sucks big time and most people can only sympathize but ya gotta keep your mind off it and go on with your life.

Just keep telling yourself that ya gotta get better for your family.

PS The doctors also told me there was a 99% chance I would never have kids,,,8 years later my wife is now 7 months pregnant with our son.

PSS - Smoke some pot,,,it really helped!

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, a far less agressive cancer than you have. I have been clean now for 3 years since a radical prostectomy. Still I sweat every blood test.

Good luck and do not give up hope the body is a wonderful thing and I have seen it beat cancer in many people.

my second cousin JUST turned 35... Hes terminal and was just put on a respirator... but had esophageal and it was not found until stage three. ITs pretty much spread all over his body at this point. Hes not afraid to die... but the pain really sucks. If I was ever terminal I would not let them put me on a ventilator .

Now that I've shared my negative news I would like to say that you CAN win. Either way, suffering is not forever.

My friend's step-brother was recently given 3-6 months to live after being diagnosed with cancer. He decided not to go through with chemo and for them to pull the plug when the time comes.

All I can say, prostock, is for you not to give up. Ask for support from your friends and family. You should never feel like you are alone in such a moment of crisis. Talk with your doctor for alternative pain killers if the ones you are taking now are not helping. Take a step back and enjoy just being alive.

My prayers are with you and if there is ever anything I can do for you, just let me know.

My father had MS. The doctors told him he would end up crippled from it and would eventually be confined to getting around in a wheel chair.

My mother is a big believer in alternative treatments, even though she is an RN from college. She put him on a whole regime of dietary changes and vitamins.

Now this will sound quacky to most people, but she also had a friend who was born with some incredible natural healing energy abilities. It was very supernatural type of skill. She could lay her hands on someone and using her mind and some kind of energy field she said she can tap into literally zap whatever is there causing the problem.

So my father figured what the heck, certainly can't hurt anything. He went to see this women. She sensed where the problem was originating in his spinal cord put her hands over it and he said he felt a rush of electricity zapping into his back and he arched forward from it.

He went in to see his Neurologist a couple weeks later for his progression checkup. They shot xrays and the doctor was looking at them and said these can't be his x-rays, I'm not seeing the same thing as last time. Someone in the lab must have sent up the wrong patients film. They checked but it was my father's and he never had any more MS attacks after that and he was completely free of it.

prostock, you should email me, shemp at shemp dot com.
i'd like to talk with you over the phone......
i posted this last year, but it seems appropriate to repost it again.

Some bad stuff can happen to good people you know.
in my whole life, i was never out of work, on unemployment welfare, whatever. I had a great home and a wonderful family.
Just over three years ago, i woke up one morning and i didnt feel too good... really weak and tired. I had some strange bruises on me, that i didnt remember getting. I went to the doctor and within a couple of hours, i got the C word. Cancer, not just regular cancer, oh no thats too simple, i had Leukemia, with the Philadalphia disease thrown in as well. No known cure, " i hope you have your will in order" the doc said.
i used to look like this

after chemo and radiation, i looked like this

and now after 4 years of treatments, i can eat again and taste food. I can get out a little now and i have gained back 35 of the 80 lbs i lost. the depression and hopeless feelings that you have are common, all of us that survived have experienced them too.
You must never give up, keep fighting...oh ya, and wear a hat too ;)

I too am a cancer survivor. I had cancer when I was 9 (the year was 1964...way before radiation and chemo). I was originally given 6 months to live, then was given "experimental" surgery, with a 75% guarantee that I would lose a leg. Needless to say, I survived and did not lose a leg, however, my Mom tells me that she has never seen someone fight something harder in her entire life (I guess that's what makes me a tough old fart now

Hang in there man...if you can beat it, and you want to beat it, you will...

brain tumor, right occipital lobe...I refused the radiation part of chemo and did just the chemical part. I was on bed rest for a little over 6 months and my weight BALLOONED (unlike others who lost...usually due to the radiation tho). I am still fighting the way the bed rest screwed up my metabolism and I still have MRI's every 4-6 months. I had a relapse scare in November of last year, but I was given a clean bill of health....for now....

It sucks, badly....if you need to talk, I am USUALLY hiding on ICQ
