Bubba the Love Sponge Fired!

Bubba was fired last night.

DJ Bubba Is Fired By Clear Channel
Published: Feb 25, 2004

TAMPA - Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, whose graphic and explicit radio program prompted the largest proposed single fine against a broadcaster in history, was fired Monday, according to a statement from his boss.
Dan DiLoreto, a vice president and general manager at WXTB, 97.9 FM, owned by Clear Channel Communications, issued a statement on the 11 p.m. newscast at sister station WFLA, 970 AM.

DiLoreto said Clem's contract had been terminated with the Tampa station and several other Florida radio stations that air the program, ``Bubba the Love Sponge.'' DiLoreto did not elaborate. Neither Clem, whose show aired mornings on WXTB, nor any Clear Channel executives could be reached for comment.

In January, the Federal Communications Commission proposed fining San Antonio- based Clear Channel $755,000 for material aired on Clem's show that the agency deemed indecent. The total also included a fine regarding the station's record keeping.

Clem's show was popular. It was the No. 1 radio program in the Bay area from 6 to 10 a.m. with people ages 18 to 34, according to the most recent Arbitron ratings show.

Clem has been fined repeatedly for similar offenses, including a 2002 incident in which Clear Channel agreed to pay $30,000 for material broadcast in 1997.

I am sure he will be picked up again somewhere.

I remember being like 14 and listening to his night show on 93.3 wflz, his show was the best back then. Havent listened to him since I was about 18 though. He always seemed to push the limits which is what I liked.

If you ever listened to his show you would understand this firing. I live in the Bay area and have met Bubba quite a few times. The guy is a piece of shit, plain and simple. He was an over-the-edge discount Howard Stern.

I will miss Ned though, he was one funny S.O.B.!

It was bound to happen, finally the company's liability outweighed it's profits, that's all.

Must of been a pretty big jackass to receive the highest levy ever imposed at one time for indecency violations.

I'm not sure exactly what he did, I only listen to it when I'm driving.. but the FCC has also fined other radio shock jock hosts recently.. His was just the biggest fine.. But I think they are cracking down on the rado shows much like they are going after porn sites..

I agree, will miss Ned, Bubba used to have girls doing each other with dildos and stuff on air. Pushed the edge really. They fined him because of all the kids that listen to the show.
