Decent Video Camera For Internet Use?

Doe's one really need a 3-CCD camera for internet streaming?

Can anyone suggest a less expensive single chip miniDV video camera that will work fine for shooting video for the internet?

Would love to see a sample clip from that camera. What program do you use for editing? I'm a newbie to all the video stuff - just getting rolling with it.

If you have a clip - send the link to me: dean at deancapture.com

Thanks a bunch -

Sony VX2000 or the new VX2100 is as good as anything on the market + very easy to use and great price too.

Ours pay for themselves over and over 7 days a week so what else can you say?

yup!

dont short change yourselfs folks and get a mindv, 3chip is for the web, if your shooting for tv/dvd you would be using something quite a bit better then a vx2000 or a gl1.

$2-3k is not a lot for a video camera.

Not at all.

The footage you shoot will be more valuable with a 3-chip camera.

Dean, a three chip isn't necessary, of course if u can afford it, buy it.

You know lighting, nobody here would be able to tell whether your video was shot with a 1 chip or 3 chip camera.

acutually there really is no difference in quality between my vx2100 and say a dvcam... the only difference might be reliablity... some say the dvcam is more reliable but I have not had a minidv fail on me yet.... and I shoot TV stuff all the time.. infact I shot the show at the TI for there bilboard out front with my vx2100... so I say sony vx2100 even the trv950 is a great buy and it's 3ccd and small... great camera.... I perfer sony over cannon... but it's all personal prefrence.... but you wont notice a difference between a dvcam and a minidv cam if you know what your doing......

Panasonic makes a 3 chip that's $1499 at Circuit City. Can't recall the model number.

Don't make this mistake. It sounds like a good idea at first, but if you want to ever release your content on video or DVD you could make tens of thousands of dollars if it was shot on a 3 chip camera and $0 if it was on a camcorder.

if you have plenty of light you probably can't tell the difference.

but for low ambiant light 3chip will look better, more resolution, more contrast, just better images.

and focus will "hunt" less in low light with 3chip---with the net result that scenes with movement will appear sharper.

Thanks for all the tips guys -

I have a friend who just upgraded to a Canon XL1s and is looking to sell his GL1. He just sent it off to Canon to have them go over it and to make sure everything is in good working order because he was planning to sell it on ebay. However, he told me he'd let me have it when Canon sends it back for $1000 and would throw in the Canon wide-angle adapter and Century Precision Tele-Convertor as well as a few batteries and all the accessories that came with the camera. Sounded like a pretty damn good deal to me so looks like a 3-CCD camera after all

We use a Sony TRV40E, which works well enough for our shoots.
Depending on the location we need the sony light that clips on to the top of the camera that works a treat.

oh, i know this, but if you just lookjing for web shoots right now it probably means your just starting up and not looking to spend $2500 on a camera, and it would be wise to use the smaller cheaper one to make your money, then spend the new money on the better model...don't sink all your money first buying a expensive camera only to learn you suck...try out the small one first

and depending on your market, your viewers may not want super high quality, lots of smaller sites still use non-digital, cause that is their market

Just outside the same topic -- What software are people using to send their video out -- if they are using something like the Sony or Canon 3 chip cams?

Windows Encoder or something else?

Well, perhaps it did break - what's your point?

When it comes back from Canon it should be in good working order. He has been a friend of mine for years - I doubt he is out to fuck me. He told me he sent it in for maintance and to make sure that everything was working propertly before he sold it to me. Why should I think he is lying?

Canon cameras rock! The XL-1 is an outstanding camera, but unless you are actually going to use it to it's potential, and utilize extra lenses, it is a huge waste of money. I think it has probably been a little more than a year since the last time I touched it. My ZR30 is smaller, lighter, and much more portable, and provides just as high of quality. Considering that the ZR30 was about $8,000 cheaper, it's a fuck of a deal.

I tried a couple of the Panasonic PV900 series cameras, and wasn't impressed with their cheap finish and plastic internals. I can attest that my Canon was hurled more than 15 feet and landed on pavement, and didn't sustain any damage other than some scratches to the body. I still use it to this day, and have been very happy with it.

Mr. Funny man... you have no idea.

almost six figures in one year from 2 deals = 4 movies

Vanna, help Jace buy a clue.

who the hell said anything about a webcam?

Tripod? Sicks, hand held, Jib, crane or die.
