Local Area Network problem

Okay Im having this strange problem.

My business partner is having trouble accessing computers on the network. He will click on My Network Places and it will hang there for about 5 minutes before the networked computers will show up. Then when he clicks on one of the networked machines it hangs for another 5 minutes before it will show the folders on that machine. After that he has no problem everything seems fast.

Im running a linksys router and hubs and all machines are on Windows XP. No settings were changed and it just started doing this a few days ago....

turn off all pcs
turn off router
turn off modem

wait 2 minutes

turn on modem - allow it to sync up with ISP
turn on router - allow it to sync up with modem
turn on each pc, one at a time, allowing it to sync up with router before turning on the next one

All wires are running out of harms way and are all in perfect condition.

DID YOU TRY GOING TO TWEAKXP.COM?

I believe I mentioned it a couple of posts up.

The particular fix is about slow network browsing because windows searches a couple of folders that it shouldn't.

That is a common issue with those routers . Also when the operating systems are not the same. If they are all xp you should just have to reset the router.

We have had the exact same problem here since the network was rebuilt. We are on full gigabit switches, domain controller is running Win 2k, and we have a WatchGuard SOHO firewall. When trying to browse other computers on the network, it will hang for a full 2 minutes before showing the other computers. There is NO reason for this

I had the same thing happen after installing an earlier "security" patch from M$, I ended up having to re-install XP on the machine and it was peachy keen again. Never did find a solution.

use the restore to a prior date function to set it for last week (if it worked then), or try jact's idea of reinstalling Windows
