2.[10] 100110100001101 represents a 16-bit 2?s complement binary number. What decimal number does it represent? (careful: count bits first)
100110100001101 it is 15 bits, we need to add one 0 and it will be positive 0100110100001101 the answers is 19725 3. [10] 10001010 represents a 8-bit 2?s complement binary number. What decimal number does it represent? 10001010 is negative, first flip and after that add 1 011110101 +1 011110110 it is positive the answers is 246 4.[10] Add the following two 12-bit 2?s complement binary numbers. Give the answer in decimal. 011001100110 101011111011 the answer is 353 |

humm humm it's been a while.. As far as I can remember, a 2's complement binary number is found by reversing all the bits of the number, and then adding 1.
I.e.: You have 01000001 (33 in decimal) You reverse all the bits = 10111110 Then add 1 = 10111111 (191 in decimal) Don't take my word for it though. Just a little hint hopefully. I'm too lazy to find my books and search for the answer ;) |
