i'm guessing you need a special video card to have dual monitors?
if so, can you recommend a reasonably priced one?

I think the GeForce can be found for around $120 now and the DVI adapter was $19 at fry's

I have the same card, and only can get the same background on both monitors.

Do you have any detailed instructions on changing the 2nd monitor?

I've got dual 19" LCDs on one machine and dual 17's LCDs on my other. I can't imagine working with one monitor any more

You don't need a dual headed video card to use two monitors. Just drop in an extra video card. Keep in mind that the first PCI slot may not be usable if the AGP slot is used. Other than that, I've run with as many as 4 video cards in one computer, on both Windows & Linux.

I have the Matrox Parhelia card - it supports three heads.

I bought a 21.3" LCD but for some reason it didn't get along with the two 21" Sony's on my desk so I returned it. I don't know why, and didn't have time to figure it out. But I couldn't live without two monitors. I look forward to not being able to live without three monitors. I'll use one for work, one for GFY, and one for ICQ.

Looks like I was mistaken

the background that had loaded is 2560x1024

I tried a different one and it put the same image on both screens

Dual displays is the way to go . .you can do it for about 100$

If you use photoshop or Vegas (or premiere) . .it is an absolute must.

I've been thinking about dual monitors recently, but didn't know if it was worth it or not. You folks with multiple monitors, do you run multiple machines as well, or not? I'm just trying to figure out the right combination...

I used to either use a nice scenic panorama, or some images from nasa's site (nice and big).

Now I just use a different background on each monitor.
