* * * Delaware > The Bird Flu Has Hit The US Now!

Oh boy, here we go. It's here now.

The bird flu has been confirmed in chickens that were getting sick on a Delaware poultry farm. The State has ordered all 12,000 chickens on the farm be destroyed.

I think there is a cover-up all ready happening as they are trying to say its a safe version of the flu and no one should panic yet, its still safe to eat chicken. So why the rush to kill all the chickens then if its no risk.

As always, the people are put at risk to protect the interests of a large industry.

Time to dump your KFC and poultry stocks.

In it's present form the Bird Flu isn't 'that bad'

But reading up on the spanish flu pandemic of 1915, that was nasty, 20-50 million killed, that's more than what died in the 1st world war which was at the same time but it just isn't given the same kind of attention.

If it does mutate and we are on the verge of another pandemic.. can only assume there will be more dead than last time.. and no-one in the world would be safe

scary stuff...

Well Japan just issued an emergency order banning any importation of chicken meat from the United States.

What's that tell you?

South Korea too issued a ban on US Chicken imports now.

Health experts have been most worried about the possibility of the disease combining with the human influenza virus to create a more lethal version that could be spread between people ? giving rise to a global pandemic.

China's Agriculture Ministry reported bird flu in three more provinces on Saturday.

The WHO was investigating Cambodia's first suspected human case ? a woman who fell ill in Takeo province and died in a hospital in neighboring Vietnam, said Sean Tobin, a WHO medical epidemiologist in the capital, Phnom Penh.

Singapore has also stopped U.S. poultry imports, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority said in a statement.

More than 50 million chickens have been slaughtered in Asia to stem the spread of the virus.

They'll never tell us I'm sure. But I guarantee you one thing every poultry farmer in America is shitting in their pants right now and the midnight lights are probably burning away at Perdue's corporate offices figuring out the PR campaign they're going to need to keep people feeling safe to eat chicken.

There worried the virus would spread from bird 2 human. Its not only chickens that are affected but all birds. Imagine the spreading with all the birds around. Plus the bird flu is more potent then the human flu, older people and people with decreased immune systems would get it the worst.

Scarry stuff...

I've read estimates of 40% mortality for the entire human race if there was a new pandemic.

When you think about it, could be a great way for terrorists to really fuck us up in the United States. You nail the food supply and then its airborne.

If it gets into the general bird population with pigeons especially all over like you see in NYC, that shit would be everywhere in a heart beat.

Any terrorist would have to be insane to do that... they wouldn't just be fucking up the US, they'd be killing a good portion of the whole world. Osama might be ruthless but he's not an idiot.

They'd be better off poisoning the water supply in major cities or something like that.

You don't get it do you? This stuff is lethal as it mutates and crosses species. The only reason it hasn't killed a lot of people yet is because they are killing all the birds so it can't spread to humans and birds that go near humans.

Look in your backyard. Got birds?

You think its a joke? The minute Delaware announced the birds tested positive 3 countries banned poultry imports from the US.

That has an immediate economic effect as well. Think what would happen to the stock market if this stuff forces the countries entire poultry supply to have to be destroyed, or it goes to pigs or cows like it can.

19 terrorists killed themselves. I think the Islamic way of thinking is pretty much if we can't kill the US we'll take everything down.

Remember these folks believe this is hell and after they die they're all going first class to Allah's kingdom where a dozen virgins will be waiting for them.

Except it's not the same type of "bird flu" thankfully, that they have in Asia.

From Cnn's website regarding South Korea's banning of American chicken:"Seoul should not have banned the American product, Scuse said, because lab tests showed the chickens had the H7 strain of bird flu which was "in no way shape or form what they have in Asia."

One of the current anti-flu drugs (I think it's called tamiflu) is supposedly potentially able to weaken or kill the bird flu, but there's no where near enough to dish it out in the event of a pandemic, and it's going to take months for the company that makes it (Pfizer?) to make more of a stockpile.

My memory must be fading... I thought it was the previous year -
But that was some killer flu.
About 10 years or so ago, they discovered the remains of a person who died from the spanish flu - And tests showed the likely cause was also poultry -

So chicken is off the menu -
Mad cows means beef is banned
Swine fever cuts out pork -
Guess you Aussies will be investing heavily in lamb now as that is most probably the safest meat!
