What's wrong with a little spam?

I just read a post on another board from a webmaster complaining about getting spam from a sponsor

This person then went on to say that they were an affiliate of this sponsor!

What the heck is up with that?

I'm starting to think that complaining about spam is one of those fad type things that's gotten out of control. I mean, where would we all be without spam? Who here doesn't spam?

Now I'm not talking about the mails you get that are out and out deceptive, or have virus, I'm talking about ones where you've signed up for something, or given out your e-mail address for some reason. I don't think it's right to complain about getting e-mails from these places when spam is the very fuel our industry depends on to run.

I say hop on the spam wagon!

ut oh... guess I'd better close my e-mail.. lol

I've registered 2 new domains recently, and the first emails (wm@mydomain) I downloaded from my server where Spam emails.
And Spammers seriously harm our business, so everybody who doesn't report them as often as possible shouldn't cry when the next "regulations" on porn take place.

I've found people's idea of spam has to do more with their interest in the product or service being offered, not whether or not they have signed up for it or not...

This isn't spam, you are giving them consent to mail you. Look at all the sick shit that is being mailed now, with no regard to who is on the other end of the message. It doesn't matter whether they are 7 or 90 years old. It's wrong period.

Imagine walking outside and finding the first kid you saw, and then showing him/her pics of people having sex, sucking etc.

Now that is bad isn't it? Spammers are doing the exact same thing except electronically.

I have three girls, the oldest being 7 1/2 and now she cannot sit beside her dad and watch him check his email How long will it be before I feel safe enough with her having her own email etc. She can navigate the web now on her, she can do alot of things on the computer but I will not allow her simply because of this reason.

Its not spam if you sign up with a company and consent to being put on thier mailing lists.

However, there are a few sponsors out there that force you to recive thier dumb little newsletters if you want to be part of thier affiliate program and that really isnt cool. I replied with "Remove" to one of them and the next thing I know, I got an automated notice telling me they closed my account. LOL.

Perhaps you should have been a bit more detailed.

"Remove" doesn't really give them alot of information. Especially if, like you say, getting the newsletter is apart of being their affiliate.

Seeing as how you dont seem to have a problem with spam messages, can I assume you would have no objection if I forward all my spam mail to you?
