Would you or did you give Yahoo $600 to get listed?

As most know, Yahoo charges $600 for the chance of a quick listing on their SE. Would you? Did you?

if they would act6ually list you im sure many of us would be willing to pay, the thing is they "review" the sites for 600$ with no gurantee of a listing.
Very shit deal for 6 bills

Pick up domains off the expired list that are already listed.

As google seems now to be the main search engine, I am not that much interested in Yahoo as it seems to be used less and less.

|As they take the money even if they do not list your site, I would not pay it. If they did return your cash if it was not listed, then I may be tempted. But I am sure that for $600, I could better invest it into other ways to get more hits. It just seems a lot of money for a search engine that seems to be now not the main one.

OK, maybe I am wrong, but I do not remember the last time I used yahoo (in the 90's I guess), these days I just use google, and everybody I see using the net uses google.

That's $600 per year to keep the listing I think.

It's $600 Per Year now, I got 2-3 listings that were to be
renewed now in February.
I cancelled them, wasn't enough traffic to be worth the 600.

Yahoo Directory listings went to shit when they stopped listing them first.

Back in the day, when Yahoo was a real directory, we would celebrate when our sites were accepted. For free. It would take weeks and months, but, once in, sign ups were practically guaranteed.

Then, the 199. deal. Which wasn't too bad and was still worth the money for a chance to be reviewed and possibly listed.

But, this six hundred deal isn't worth it, in my opinion. Especially since it's only the guarantee of a review, not a listing. And, it's got to be paid for every year.

Now, Yahoo is dumping Google, if I read that correctly, so who knows...

Definately. Maybe it will change once they drop Google but I'm not holding my breath.

If you are not initially accepted you have the oportunity to change your site to be up to par and be accepted. I also believe that they tell you what is wrong to. I think that they very rarely do not accept sites. You have to be doing some very shitty stuff not to be accepted.

I have 3 domains (that i know of) listed in yahoo directory. First one was a free submission, second was when it was 600 one time fee and the last was recently when some Yahoo editor just added one of my sites out of the blue. That was NICE!

I'm pretty sure you can make more than 600 bucks a year off that listing, but not enough in my opinion to wait that long.

If you can build up the traffic without yahoo, they'll list you faster.

They're a directory/search engine. They wouldn't be very good if they didn't have good traffic sites listed... would they?

They'll list you on their own.

I really doubt that will happen. It's a shame too.. that was what seperated Yahoo from the other engines.

back in the day paying to get listed on Yahoo was worth it. You could make your money back within hours of them ading your site. If their directory listings actually came up first it might still be worth it, but untill that happens it's a ripoff. I had a site rejected, and you get one appeal with them (at least thats how it use to be) and on appeal I was accepted.
And Yahoo has not helped my Google rankings at all.

I have my sites listed in Yahoo but this was done when listings were free and when the $600 listings were a one time fee. Now that it is $600 per year I dont think it is worth it.

My sites rank well in Yahoo based on popularity, which is nice. But since Yahoo let webmasters with freesites with names like !!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111AAAAAAAAblowjobs.com flood their directory listings, I think Yahoo sucks.

I don't list my new sites there anymore. Your money could be better spent elsewhere.

No and no.

Getting ranked well on Google and listed in DMOZ/ODP is much more important, much cheaper and much more productive. Yahoo! is a pretty low-volume search engine anymore, IMHO. They aren't even in my top 10 anymore whereas Google has always been my #1 for some time.

If your serious, give me a email at

By the way, your right synergysex. I just worry about Google and DMOZ, the rest I submit once, but really don't care if I get listed. I even submit to the foreign search engines, which probably give me more traffic than Yahoo do.

I think you could come up with good grounds for that. All you would have to do is show that a few of the existing sites in the category were inferior to yours, and charge it back. Since they never seem to go through the directory once a site is in you should be able to find at least a couple of examples in any given category.
