Besides, most of the sweaters I buy are actually from Italy and such. Only the cheap stuff comes from China :winkwink:

I don't rain on every parade. I just rain on the continuing "oooh let's give toys to the cute fluffy animals 'cuz they're cute and... well.. fluffy"-parade.
Ofcourse, helping Mittens get a new ball of yarn is nice and all, but I can't help but laugh when people actually believe that's a good cause. It's a bit like fighting terrorism by yelling at kids that walk through your lawn.

Trust me I know, and I don't like it, but there isn't that much I can do about it other than minimize the amount of taxes I have to pay in April. I don't mind paying taxes, but not for welfare or social security. Call me a cold hearted bitch, but that is the way I am.

SureFire 01-29-2004 09:05 PM

All the homeless dogs and cats in the US shelters should have cute beds and toys and nutritional food because for most of these no-longer wanted pets their next home is death.

----
Pet overpopulation statistics
Every year in the United States an estimated 5 million animals lose their lives in shelters because they are homeless. That is one pet life lost every 6.5 seconds. http://www.humanealliance.org/why.htm
----

Loryn, happy birthday.

My local shelter hit me up before Christmas and I0 cats can have a new home without any adoption expenses to the new owners?the adopter just needs references and not from a vet.

Started to do this when I was refused from adopting a cat from the local shelter and they were to lazy to call the West coast for my vet references and a cat could have been saved.

To the rest, I donate to local people shelters too and refuse to give a bum on the street any money. :)

Thank you. I had the same thing happen to me when I tried to adopt a cat. Made me so mad I turned that place upside down. Not literarily. They were sorry they turned me down. Needless to say I got my kitty.

Just knowing that you helped 10 kitties makes me happy. Thank you. :)

I am at the very least inspired by this thread and by Loryn. It is an excellent cause.

However, the animals in my own area need help as well, so with Loryn in mind I am going to find out if the local Humane society needs such things as bleach and dog food and postage stamps, or if they could use a cash donation.

I've had Loryn on the brain lately anyway, so this will be an easy step. Again, great cause.

To those saying there are other more worthy causes...... I believe that any help of any defenseless being is a worthy cause, be it animal or human. Help is help, period. If you have a cause in mind, why not shaddaap and go do something about it, like Loryn is. Quit being such jerks.

couldnt have said it better myself ... :thumbsup

Loryn (or aaron, whoevers doing this), maybe put a link to the paypal address in your sig, or in your replies, make it easier for people to send $ if they see the link inbetween all the debate over whether or not its a worthy cause when actually they just dont have a pot to piss in ...

wyldblyss 01-29-2004 09:39 PM

We have and will continue to donate a great deal to rescue organizations for our breed of dog. We support them because the breed has contributed a great deal to our lives. They have given us love and devotion and have taught us a great deal about life.

Resuce organizations take in the half breeds, the no breeds, the mutts and clean them up, get them healthy and fixed and find them good homes. If doing something like this interests people I see nothing wrong with it at all.

Having said that, we also donate to childrens charities and spent a small fortune sponsoring a child at christmas. Just becaue you support animal rescue does not mean you don't think about or care about humans....it is possible to care about both so I honestly can't see what all the fuss is about.

If Loryn would like to do something like this to celebrate a birthday I think it is wonderful, it does not however mean that Loryn does not care about starving and sick children.

Glad you made a fuss and got your kitty. I went three shelters and was refused. The last one I had a letter from my family vet and brought in my tax returns and the workers were very nice and said they were just following the rules.

First time in my life, I paid for a pet rather than adopting. I love my cat, but I wish my vet here would stop telling me that this is the problem in with owning a purebred. Little does she know that I never wanted a purebred, and when I want to adopt a cat that is on death row, the vet office will have to say I am a good pet owner; however, she elected to have one tooth pulled rather than having a root canal done.

Hope people donate to your cause or another because just like babies, domestic pets shouldn?t have suffer from stupid adult actions.
