Atkins @ InterNext? What The Fuck???

I should invite the good folks at Atkins to set up a booth at the next Internext and see if we can get some of you folks in shape. Checking out some of the pics from Internext - come on people!!!

That weight can't be good for your heart. It can't be good for your blood pressure. Do you have to look in the mirror to see your tali'wacker? If so, there's a problem - look into it

Eating all the meat/fats can't be good for the heart either. There's got to be a compromise!

yeah it's called eating semi sensibly and getting off your ass to exercise. wooo.. so hard to understand.. everyone knows what they have to do we're all just too lazy to do it because it's more effort than popping a pill.

AMEN! I'm definitly not into fad diets, and my body would shut down if I didn't have my carbs. I'm way too athletic to starve myself of a necessity.

BTW. Glucose is what makes the brain function and it's what gives muscles energy. When you're losing weight, ask yourself if it's fat or muscle you are burning. Muscle weighs more than fat, and that may be a possible reason for the major weight losses.

atkins stuff is crazy in the states. Your health food stores aren't even "real" health food stores.. it's just shelves of atkins snack bars, body building powder and supplements..
I guess it's just a cultural thing.. health food stores here have organic produce and all natural food, dried fruit and museli.. nuts. as well as catering to people on wheat-free or whatever diets. as well as vitamins and supplements.

I have nothing wrong with fat ppl.

I think they will realize that their weight is unhealthy once a doctor tells them, "You have 50 days to live unless you do something"

Than they become health crazy. Otherwise they dont care.

all those crazy diets are crap in my opinion.. just chew your food thoroughly, stop eating when you're no longer hungry, and dont eat between meals.

yep.. and i can say that stuff as a chubby computer nerd of a decade.. just too lazy to exercise and ate shite.. im still not really fit or healthy but im replacing a lot of fat with muscle and toning up.. all it really takes is getting off your ass and into the gym or walking/swimming and eating the occasional salad instead of a lasagne sandwich with butter and cheese.

When I was in school there was a girl in my gym class. Her dad was the CEO of Atkins. At that point there was nothing but bad press about it. She'd always argue for it in health class and stuff but the teachers would always make sure the other students knew how wrong she was.

Then while in college I saw one of the first news stories confirming the new evidence that it's actually not bad for you. I remember thinking she'd be happy to be right. Now that it's blown up I'm sure she's laughing all the way to the bank. Someone's gonna be living off daddy's stock options for life.

I joined a gym last week and hired a personal trainer. I've been going every day and working out for an hour and a half each time. At least 45 minutes to an hour of cardio in that.

I decided I'll be a much thinner webmaster this time next year. And healthier too.

There is nothing wrong with eating bread. Bread, in the right amount, is good.

hell yeah.. big and greasy with heaps of extra cheese and some pepper.. when i used to work near a shopping centre i'd go and grab a microwave lasagne and a bread roll and just stuff the whole thing in... in fact i make a sandwich out of anything.. leftovers on sandwich = good.... and it's ok to frikkin eat too. just not every day. and as long as you exercise. It's not rocket science. and it's not drinking water and eating lettuce all day. It's just we as webmasters have an aversion to exercise. But once you start it's actually good. you feel like doing more.

You can and should eat bread, just don't eat it too late (like try not eating it for dinner) have it for lunch when you can work off the carbs. Eat half what your eating now, don't deprive yourself of what you love. Also don't eat too late at night, like those late night cookies and so on. Excercise is important too.

If Atkins and all that no carb shit will make you thin, is there a way to use them carbs to make you fatter? I'm 120lbs and I need some meat.

Where the fuck did you go, GNC? Sure, Atkins is big business right now but there's tons of hippy organic health food stores here. Don't worry. Just like electricity, the benefits of a low-carb diet will someday make it down under.

probably.. I thought LA would have heaps of hippy stuff but no.. I had a look in several stores and nothing... we're not as obese as americans yet so you can keep your GNC stores... they're a sad indictment on a lifestyle and mentality we're only half a pound away from here.

There's tons around LA. Natures, Mothers, Wild Oats, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc. (and those are just the chains) - all with a tons of organic produce, trail mix, granola, homeopathic remedies, and any other hippy shit you can think of. There's also plenty of places like GNC - just depends what street you're on. Since Atkins slipped on the ice and died, the marketing of his products has gotten a little crazy. The bars must have a 500% markup, so it's just a matter of business that they are everywhere.

Obesity is a huge problem, but you shouldn't gloat. The UK and Australia aren't too far behind. Just a little more fast-food infrastructural build-up and you'll be right there with us.

I wish I had known that before I went.. I figured LA for being fairly rife with hippy food, after I found nothing I looked online while I was there in the hotel and couldn't find much either, but the dialup connection and crappy IR keyboard made sure I didn't have an exhaustive look. Then again I was mainly in beverly hills, I found some australian made macadamia bars at "ralphs" though.
I took some photos in a "health food store" to show my partner - she's studied naturopathy for years - to show the differences..

I'm not gloating! - you'll notice I said "half a pound" behind - we're the 4th fattest country - 20% obese compared to the states 30%. It probably won't be long before we're packed with GNC style shops.. but as of yet they aren't around.
