There's tons around LA. Natures, Mothers, Wild Oats, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc. (and those are just the chains) - all with a tons of organic produce, trail mix, granola, homeopathic remedies, and any other hippy shit you can think of. There's also plenty of places like GNC - just depends what street you're on. Since Atkins slipped on the ice and died, the marketing of his products has gotten a little crazy. The bars must have a 500% markup, so it's just a matter of business that they are everywhere.

Obesity is a huge problem, but you shouldn't gloat. The UK and Australia aren't too far behind. Just a little more fast-food infrastructural build-up and you'll be right there with us.
I wish I had known that before I went.. I figured LA for being fairly rife with hippy food, after I found nothing I looked online while I was there in the hotel and couldn't find much either, but the dialup connection and crappy IR keyboard made sure I didn't have an exhaustive look. Then again I was mainly in beverly hills, I found some australian made macadamia bars at "ralphs" though.
I took some photos in a "health food store" to show my partner - she's studied naturopathy for years - to show the differences..

I'm not gloating! - you'll notice I said "half a pound" behind - we're the 4th fattest country - 20% obese compared to the states 30%. It probably won't be long before we're packed with GNC style shops.. but as of yet they aren't around.
