Adult Biz in a little slump?

Hi Guys!

I've been noticing something in the last few weeks.... Eveyone is broke!

I've been watching boards, and it seems like everyone is desparate for money right now.

The reason I'm writing this thread is, for those of you that find yourself in this position, there are some things to think about..
1. You're not the only one this is happening to.. so time to go with the flow
2. These are the times when you need to prepare... for the good times... they are closer than you know, and when they come and you look back and say.. gee, I wish I had time to make more sites, or fix your existing one, or whatever else you could have done to make your empire a little stronger.

So.. is this a good time to promote my business? Heck ya!

We need work at Graphics by tia, we've lowered our prices, and those on this board know that deals can be made.

Let's get something going

You're probably hearing that from the SEOers. Google's been going through a rough hurricane the past few days...

yeah it probably is.. I didn't say it wasn't profitable, all I'm saying is that it's going through a down period in the last few weeks.. I've been in this biz for over 7 yrs and have seen it happen, and when it happens people get pretty depressed about it.. but it does end.. Your business might be going through a down period. But This month looks like a record profit for me. Just because your going through a down period, doesn't mean everybody else is. I've been in this business since 96. January and Febuary have always been the best months for me. Even my friends have been seeing records profits this month. One friend is doing over $300,000 this month so far. Where is this down period your talking about?

ok let me just say one thing here before this who can tell the biggest fattest lie contest continues.

I am very wary of people who always claim they do well .. no one does well all of the time. There are ups and downs in this business, it runs pretty seasonal, except for the occasional world crisis which always has an effect.

I guess a lot of people follow the "never say you're not doing well" theory of good business... I tend not to trust those types when it comes to doing business with them

icedemon, please don't take this as a personal attack I'm not speaking to you directly, just using your post as an example

There are people here who are doing very very well. And there are more who would never come to this degenerate BBS who are doing better.

You can't measure the world by your own yardstick. And Icedemon's pal doing the $300k is totally believable. I know more than a few guys in that ballpark.

you seem to think I'm saying that no one does well in the adult biz.. that's not even close to what I was trying to get across.. we do well ..... or I wouldn't be in this biz for so long.. the one and only thing I was trying to post about was the depression newer people feel when the biz hits a slump.. I've seen a lot of people who seem desparate for money on the boards lately.. that's it!

And one more thing.. I never said I didn't believe Icedemon's pal wasn't doing the $300K... I was not only replying to his post but to all the ones that claimed that no slump is happening at all.. it's all around them.. all you have to do is read this board to see it. Is it happening to them? Maybe.. Maybe not.. I didn't bring up that part.. they did, with a defensive post

I don't take anything personal on boards (especially GFY). Your right that there are business cycles of ups and downs. But when I think of a slump, I'm thinking of 2 years ago, when it was really hard for everybody to make money. Hardly anybody was making good money back then, except for a few people.

Right now I see all kinds of people making good money right now. Maybe I'm thinking we are not in a slump, because the people I talk to are doing really well. I do talk to people that are barely making it, but most of them have been in the biz for only a year or two and to me are still green in the biz. I'm seeing too many people now days setting new highs in revenue.

I'm just not seeing a slump with me and the people I know.

I've never done much mainstream work sharky, my partner does though, has a real nice mainstream site. The reason we need work is because we need to get more adult stuff in his portfolio, he has next to nothing in there.

The real problem here is I'm spending a lot of time on digibucks, it's been a lot of work, but it's paying off.

We need work at Graphics by tia, we've lowered our prices, and those on this board know that deals can be made.

Let's get something going
lol ... Thats why some1 paid 8000 $ for sigs .

The thing is that everybody is broke after christmass . The first weeks of Jan are always the slowest (except summer) for every business.

Thanks for making us aware of your company Tia. The work looks great, but I don't think you need to tie it into a thread talking about biz slumping. I'm already doubling last years income and that's after taking time off for conventions, school, etc.

From what I hear, most people and following the same pattern as I am. If it's the newer people complaining, then you just have to equate it to newby syndrome: If they don't make a million in a month, they think the biz is not for them. It's get right quick or go back to Wendys!

Porn is just like any other industry... when the economy isn't doing so hot, things tend to consolidate and the bottom producers get squeezed out. I'd hazard a guess that most of the complaints you're seeing are the newcomers looking for the quick buck they heard you could make (like back in 1997 or something) or the ones who lack hussle and business acumen to stay strong in the game. In the end, the industry will is better off culling out the weaker elements.

And I'm doing just fine, thanks. Not making $300k/month (where do you sign up to get THAT job? ) but surviving comfortably enough. With a little hard work and some good partnerships, this will be another banner year!

January looks good. December was a tad slow.

Can't help you out since we do the same work. But, I agree with you that the economy sucks and many people here are reducing their prices, holding specials or begging for money.

I almost think that the last sig sale were for companies' last effort to show the rest of us they are strong. Really, does a new porn/webmaster like abuse from a high post count member from this board?

That's gross. Not sure what he pays himself out of the business.

I don't see any abuse, we're just debating on who are big fat liars and who aren't ;)
