Just curious, is it common for young people like that to die from cardiac arrests/heart attacks? I know it does happen , because I've read about young people in their twenties dying like that, but I'm still curious as to how it happens? Even if you are somewhat unhealthy, doesn't it take MANY MANY years for all the fat to build up in you arteries in order for your heart to give out? How can it give out so soon in so few years? Especially in someone who is athletic and plays sports? This scares me too! HOW exaclly does something like this happen? I'm unhealthy, I ate In N Out for dinner tonight, and ate tons of chips and fries and crap although I'm still under 100lbs... But perhaps my arteries are clogged up too ?? I'm scared

I think stuff like this is somewhat hereditary...

Heart defects, anneurisims, strokes... nobody is safe.

Scary shit... lucky for us that most of us only have to worry about it for like 50 years.

A son of a local business owner in my area had a epileptic (sp?) for the first time about 4 weeks ago now, he was in his early 20's. A week after this first attack he died in his sleep. Totally fucked up :/

The only 24 y/o athetles that die because of a heart attack while
playing football are the ones using DOPING or STEROIDS..

Its virtually impossible to die of a heart attack at 24.

The boy's name is Miklos Feher and he passed away at the end of the game between Vitoria Guimaraes and SL Benfica for the portuguese league. Benfica had just scored the only goal in the match (90"). The game was about to end and the referee gave him a yellow card. He smiled at the referee and suddnely he fell on the ground. Imediate medical intervenience was useless.

He was Hungarian but he plays in Portugal since he was 18. He played on the two major portuguese teams (SL Benfica and FC Porto) and two minor teams (Salgueiros and Sp. Braga). He also used to play to the Hungarian National Team.

Feher official site: http://www.fehermiklos.hu
SL Benfica official site: http://www.slbenfica.pt

At the moment both sites are down due to heavy traffic.

Rest in peace Miki.
SLBenfica forever with you.

I'm from Portugal, where this tragedy occurred. There has been a lot of talk about this case on TV and doctors say this is a frequent situation (young guys with heart attacks) but usually you don't see them live on TV and are anonimous guys.

By the way, he only played 30 minutes, from minute 60 to 90.

In Portugal we use to say that "to die you just have to be alive"

That's sad but true

Happened in a match I was playing in several years ago before I turned pro.

We had a penalty against us - The lad put the ball down, walked back towards the 10yd arc, as he turned to face me (I was the goalie), he just crumpled to the ground - He was only about 17.

We all thought he was fooling round - Pretty sad, really.

But how do young people die all of a sudden with no apparent cause? I'm scared Can young people die all of a sudden of "natural causes" if they don't have heart problems?

I understand if someone dies in an accident or as the result of crime, but how do young healthy people just die?

I'm not joking either like you were, I'm really scared
I'm going to start eating healthy and try to exercise everyday

No shit. If I got scared every time some seemingly healthy 20 something person died I'd spend every waking hour of my life in fear. That shit happens all the time you just don't see it in the news constantly.

Yes. Some times your body just fucks up. Anurism, heart fuck ups all sorts of shit like that. It's not as common as say some 65 year old fat fuck droping dead of a heart attack but it does happen time to time.
