DVDs: Widescreen or Full Screen?

I was at BestBuy lastnight and I picked up a copy of the Matrix: Reloaded. I figured that that was a mandatory addition to my DVD collection that I just haven't gotten around to buying yet.

Well, I get home and of course I wanted to watch it. I'm all ready to rip the cellophane off the package, when I see the words at the top of the cover, 'Full Screen Version'.

I was so pissed. When did they start making two completely different versions of DVDs. Last I remembered, DVDs just gave you a choice in the menu, as to which version you wanted to watch.

I just sent Turboangel back to exchange it, just now. I can't stand the cropped 'full screen' versions (4:3) of movies. Widescreen is the only way.

Agreed: letterbox is the only way to watch a movie... Thats why you need such a friggin big screen: to make up for the 30% or so that you lose vertically from letterbox!

I gotta get one of those wide aspect ratio plasma sets...

I buy all my DVDs in wide screen 16x9 format. It is the only way to view them.

When Movies are filmed they are shot to catch a panoramic view of the scene...everything is geared towards this...the setup, the focus..etc..not top to bottom.

So when you watch it wide screen you are actually getting to see how the diretor the director of photography etc envisioned the movie.

When you watch it full screen you get the formatted size, things can get stretched looking...or important elements of the scene are off of the screen to the left or right.

Deal with this problem first, then conquer the widescreen issue. How can anyone enjoy this piece of crap movie? I snored like a great dane through the whole thing.

Matrix - AWESOME flick ..
Matrix 2 - hollywood robbing you
Matrix 3 - hollywood buttfucking you and robbing you.

One of those would be cool, but when you watch anything but a movie, you have those black bars on the sides of the screens. I don't know if I could deal with that.

She just got back with the correct version now. They charge more for the widescreen versions it looks like. Talk about marketing.

Usually you just flip it over and the widescreen is on the other side. I haven't seen it where they are sold separetly.
