patenting an idea

How hard is it to start the patent process? I've got something that I'm 100% positive will revolutionize this particular product.

GoBigtime was telling me about PatentWizard but I'm not sure about it yet. Should I just go talk to a patent attorney?

It takes a lot of money and several years. Do you have deep pockets?

You can make a shitload of money if you have a good idea that is marketable.

You can make lots of money through the process as well if you are clever.

I disagree with KRL about the part where he asks if you can afford it.

It is a complicated process and it takes time that part is true!

It is best to use a patent attorney who is experienced in patent searches. This is the second most important part!

The first most important part is the description

Make sure your description is specific enough to get the patent approved butt general enough so it covers a wide range of potential uses as you can

I have several patents and I have made money with some and lost money with others butt I do it for fun and themoney is just an extra so.......

Good Luck

KRL I'm sure you could shed some interesting light on this subject. Could you hit me up on ICQ? Thanks.

Want to see my patent attorney firm's bills? LOL

It takes a lot of money to do a complex patent if you're doing technology patents where your plan is to sell the patent. Everything has to be done first rate and just right.

Sure you can do it yourself, but you'd better know what the heck you're doing or it will all be in vain.

I suppose that's one thing I have going for me, the patent is VERY simple, and I'm actually suprized I haven't seen it yet. It's simple, and brilliant. Do simple ideas tend to cost less to patent?

the important thing is to search and be sure the patent does not already exist!

I too reccomend you use a patent attorney

Just because you have not seen the product does not mean the patent does not exist

Spend some time reading patents on the USPTO's web site and you can learn a lot.

Some are simple and easy to understand. Others are complex beyond belief.

You can get a good feel for things that way.

Searched and read every patent containing the keyword of the item in question. Didn't come up with any prior art. Also did a Google search and I got the same results.

I have two Patents in my name and the company i used to work for. Just simple things i invented, but the cost to finalize the patent was horrendous. If you need a world patent the cost for just one item was near $250,000.

Only the USA will obviously be less. Its also dependent on the patent lawyer and his charges.

I wonder if a ? would be of any use to you for your product, you can ? artwork or logos and the cost is about $600 for the USA , but i doubt you can ? ideas so forget this, just throwing out suggestions.
