Sadly the further down the road that goes it's going to create still more backlash internationally and this is going to show in many other ways - other than from further terrorist attacks. This is not going to be good for the US, but, as you say, if that is the choice of the electorate - it should stand. Tho, even now, it is questionable, that this is, in fact, the case. Time will tell. In the end, "terrorism" is not going to be beaten. Thinking... I can't actually think of any "terrorists" that have been "beaten". Have a look at all regional terrorist groups aoround the world who eventually, after much killing on both sides and wasted years, end up sitting at some conference table involved in negotiations. Tho I can't see the day that bin Laden will be sitting at any conference table :-) Basically the world is in agreement on "terrorism" and is "with" the US and UK - that is not in dispute. The support which the US had after 9/11 was massive, but this was quashed quickly and .. I dunno, but tis probably unlikely that this level of support will arise again in the event of another "incident". It is simply the behavior and lies which kill the credibility, desire for cooperation and involvement. Tis back to that word again - "trust" :-) I've you "really" think the stuff re Saddam has anything to do with WMD or terrorism - take a look at the background and papers published by the folks who advocated this "war" and "sold" it to the US people - they failed to sell it to the rest of the world. It's all more than transparent - up pops that "trust" word again! :-) Almost on a daily basis, the trust issue arises in "words" and innuendo, despite statements from more authoratitive sources to the contrary... That Iraqi now had "programs" related to WMD - what is this "program" thing? ie.. Did or did they not have WMD as claimed? While this distrorted picture is being painted, we have the US bugging the phones, intercepting email etc of UN Security Council members in an attempt to gain some advantage. This alone, is no less than another "Watergate" instigated by a country that claims to possess some moral high ground. Back to that "trust" word again - the track record is extensive to support a lack of trust where the standards "should" be much higher. |
