I just called them and they had no idea the whole network is down. I said do you realize your network is down? He says "Oh really?"

Thats 3 or 4 times in a month....not good at all.

Nice. If it's been down for more than one hour continuously, then you can get a 10% discount on your bandwidth fee's for that month. At least that's in my contract.

This is due to a routing loop in LA a few hops down from us..

This is why some folks can get to us, and some can not.

We are working with our upstream provider to have them work upstream to resolve this.

BGP4 would not fix something like this.. its too far upstream. Our BGP sessions think everything is fine. Can exchange routes, etc.

BGP is working in this since as some traffic can get in, and other traffic can not.

We are working with them to resolve the problem.

You can disable the upstream provider with the loop problem and have the traffic flow over your other uplinks, that should resolve the issue immediately, then when the loop is fixed you can bring back that link back up?

The problem was / is with Williams communications on the west coast.

Although we do not use WCG / Williams as a provider, several of our upstream providers do.

Shutting down BGP sessions with upstreams that peer with WCG would not have helped as all of our upstreams either peer or purchase transit with them.

We have shut down all network announcements from the Jupiter Network to WCG / Williams through all of our providers. Traffic is being re-routed at this time and network services should start looking better across the board in the next 10 minutes.

It was not a Jupiter problem, it was a Williams problem in their routers. That's why some people could hit some Adult.com tours, and others couldn't.

Jupiter doesn't use Williams, but because it's the Internet, everything has to route through somewhere.

Just like if your host uses Level3, and they hand off the traffic at some point to Sprint, and then Sprint has bad routing and you're down. That's not your host that's fucking up. Either Level3 would have to change their routes to avoid Sprint, or the Hosting company would have to shut off their Level3 connection.

Jupiter has more than one upstream provider, and was able to route around Williams once it knew what the problem was.

Hat's off to Jupiter Hosting for getting things back to normal as quickly as they did!

Jupiter doesnt goof around when they know there is a problem. My concern is that when I called them they had no idea anything was wrong, that was about 10 minutes after I noticed a problem.

All is well now though.
