Poker seems to be popular all of a sudden

I'm confused as to how I can hear so many people tell me how incredibly busy they are day after day and how they never even have time to eat...

but then they sit down to play poker for hours every night.

In an industry full of people working 23 hours a day.... how in the world did poker tournaments get so popular?

The world series of and Rounders may have sparked it, but yeah, I have noticed a lot more of it on television. I totally noticed a lot more people playing it lately too.

It's certainly gained some popularity in the last little bit. There are 3 different channels broadcasting poker tournaments now, included ESPN and TLC.

But I don't think that it was ever "not" popular. Most of the people I know that play now, have played it since they were in 2nd grade.

The REAL reason why was because of a guy name Chris Moneymaker. He entered a party poker tournament for $40 and won his way for a seat in the World Series of Poker 2003. That $10,000 for a seat. He won the WSOP and took home $2,500,000

so that opened the eyes of everyone including media.

it showed that even $1 can get you in a high limit tournament and win big bucks. Last night they reran party poker million 2 and one guy at the finaltable got in with $1. he won all the pre-tourneys to get there and only cost a buck

then the "World Poker Tour" started on the travel channel and is the highest rated show there, funny thing is they have higher ratings on there repetes now then they did when it first primered.

free tournamnet tonight is 2 hours away. good luck everyone.

Yeah I watched Chris Moneymaker play the tournament on ESPN2 I think it was. He was good because he was a new guy and the seasoned pros couldn't quite figure him out. He was a lot lucky too on some of those hands.
