he.net managed server

Just wondering if anyone else here has the managed server there.
All i want is zend optimizer installed on there and they want to charge me $150/hour to install it per account. They will not do a standard installation of zend optimizer because apparently it makes it too hard to track down problems if something is wrong.

to install zend in each account they would have to install php as a cgi script aswell. to install zend the standard way takes a matter of minutes.

anyone else had this problem before?

And i don't want suggestions of other hosts because i'm locked into a contract.

if your not reselling the server then I don't see the point of loading PHP as CGI script or setting up zend the complicated way.

If the server is stricly for your use read the instructions and set it up yourself (assuming you arent alreading running PHP as a CGI script)

If you are reselling, yea they are correct.

I had a server for over 5 years with he.net and never asked them for anything in all of that time. Paid way more than I should have, but didn't want the trouble of moving to another hosting company.

Recently, I asked them to do some upgrades and got treated like crap. Was told I would have to pay a ton for what I thought should have been routine free upgrades. Considering how much I had paid them over the years (over $50,000), I was insulted and pissed off. They finally apologized (for the treatment), but the damage was done. And they still insisted I pay for the upgrades!

They were reliable, but they are way too expensive and they really need some lessons in how to treat their customers.

I'm in the process of moving everything to a new company.

I would suggest you deal with someone from this board and forget he.net IMO.
