But Bush is pandering big time to the Religious Right since they are insisting on this. The Right wing has always had to have some enemy, and since the end of Communism, it was hard to find one. BUT..then they discovered GAYS and all the terrifying horrors they are perpetrating on the United States. My god..we can't have people openly loving others..no matter what sex. It's WAR that makes this a truly "Godly" country! Not love! |

The government should STAY out of the marriage business completely!! I thought Conservatives were AGAINST the government getting in everyone's business? |

its funny how segregation was suppose to end in the 60's but yet it's still very rampant today. rather then a race it is now a gender. i wonder if i will be allowed to vote, since i am a woman ya know :)
gay relationships do not bother me. its a relationship between two people and if it happens to be of the same sex, so be it. those relationships arent effecting me in any way just like heterosexual relationships dont. lets concern ourselves with important issues like why are so many kid killing each other and being kidnapped. lets worry about those who had jobs for 25 years and are now on the unemployment line. lets worry about large corp execs stealing money from not only those who work for them but their clients as well. there are far more important issues to worry about then who lays in bed with who. |

In case no one noticed, it takes a man and a woman to make a family.
In all of human history there has yet to be two men who could conceive, carry, and birth a baby. There has yet to be two women who could conceive, carry, and birth a baby. |

Aside from that, lesbian couples actually do a better job at raising kids than straight couples. Gay couples can also adopt kids, something that is very beneficial to society (kids tend to do better in any situation which provides two parents in comparison to orphanages and such). Something you could also wonder about is if the possibility of marriage endorsed by the state is what creates long-term, stable relationships. Wouldn't the people who choose to get married stay together for a longer time than those who choose not to get married anyway? The argument of straight marriages being better for society than gay marriages doesn't hold if you're taking a practical point of view. The only reason one can say straight marriages should be supported by the government and gay marriages should not comes from either religion or conservatism for the sake of conservatism. |
Back in the 1860's a majority of Americans didn't want to end slavery, even in the North. There was a war over it because ending slavery was the right thing to do.
Back in the early 1900's a majority of Americans didn't want to give women the right to vote. The judges gave them that right because it was the right thing to do. Back in the 1960's a majority of Americans didn't want to end segregation either. There was nearly a rebellion over it, and it brought about civil rights - because it was the right thing to do. Now we face the same issue - should gays have the same rights as every other American? A majority of Americans don't want to give the gays the rights to marriage. The judges are interpreting the Constitution "All men are created equal" this means that even gay men and women should have the same rights as people like you and me. - it is the right thing to do. |

This man is ruining our free world as we know it and you're starting to talk bullcrap about gay marriage and their incapabilties regarding raising kids. Could it be that you were raised by republican monkeys :Graucho |
a surprising number of bigots on this board. :(
It doesn't matter what the majority thinks. Human rights superceed democracy. The constitution and bill of rights were required to protect minorites from majorities. desegregation was equally unpopular. It's offensive Bush even suggested taking a document that gaurantees freedoms, and adding a provision (it would be the only one) that denys freedom. |

Iraq was no threat to us, and they never really was. if there was WDM don't you think they'd use the weapons instead of fucking running and hidding and another thing Americans really do care about the Iraqi people, that's just bullshit. after 9/11 americans wanted to bomb and kill anyone in the middle east. now we're all supposely wanting to help and free them. yeah right, brainwashed by the media AGAIN. |

Imagine if Bush passed a law that said the only way to get the benefits of marriage is to marry someone of the same sex? Would you marry another man just so you could file your tax return as a married couple, and have visiting rights to your partner in the hospital, and be able to leave your land to your partner in case of your death? A church shouldn't be forced to marry a gay couple if it violates their religous beliefs. But the government should NOT be given a choice in this matter! All men are created equal in America, our Constitution demands it. It's a fucking injustice to deny people these rights based solely on the fact that they love someone that in your mind they shouldn't. |
and provide a child with a mother and father which is the best way to raise a child
