All I could find at Amazon.ca is the game of the year edition of Ghost Recon.

Here is one of the reviews written on it though:

5/5 stars. Impressive FPS!!, August 9, 2003

A customer from Cocoa Beach, FL
"This game is one of the very few that actually forces you to think about your decisions! The enimes have great AI and know what to expect from you. You have to plan out your attack and learn from your mistakes. There are no health kits or body armors in this game, its all realistic...you get shot, you're injured or dead. It's nice to see a strategic shooting game on the market like this. Graphics are impressive and sound is great as well! I highly recommend this game!!"

They (Amazon.ca) are asking $85 bucks for this game at the moment.

Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow: pretty nice gfx, fun in 1 player mode, or online play (though onlines a bit difficult to get used to after playin 1 playerfor a while, atleast for me).

Neverwinter Nights: one of the sweetest rpg's i've ever played, i used to play d & d (actual pencil and paper shit), and NWN is my replacement since i don't anymore

This is my guide to the best games I have played. If you want to know why just ask.

Quake 2, 3
Half-Life 1, 2
Thief 1, 2
Deus Ex 1, 2, (THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!!)
Total War: Rome
Call of Duty (Good game, expansion was a little short though)
Unreal Tourney 2004
Mafia (This is a must have if you like the Mafia movies!!! Think of GTA but set in the 20s-30s with a great mafia story behind it)

Hmm thats a small list going to have to think about it some more now. But the top two games I would have to say is Deus Ex 2 and Mafia.

Update: Oh and add Dungeon Siege to that list, its a fun diablo type rpg but alot less dungeons and just alot more fun imo. Not to mention online play kicks ass.

FilthyRob 10-13-2004 04:37 PM

Half-Life kicks ass! I just like the death matches though, the game is a little long for me.

Also, get all the mods and stuff to make it better, maps, models, extra mods are all a must!

Actually yes, it does. It's not that I've never heard of it, but hearing a title tells me nothing, and so far that's all I've heard is the title. Anything to do with "the Sims" or "Sim"-anything..... I know squat about it.

What is the storyline in the game, if any?
What is the gameplay like?
Why did you like playing it?

Come on guys, share a little insight.

You have honestly never heard of Sim City?

Gameplay = Megalomaniac.

Here is a review of "Warhammer: 40K Fire Warrior"
Quote:

Basically, its a classic Quake/Doom-style shoot-em-up, which I personally can appreciate since I grew up playing the aforementioned games. I actually do see some potential for "What could have been" here, but in the end its pretty much just a generic FPS experience. The graphics, I think, are actually pretty good. Contrary to much of what I've read, the view models are pretty nice , well animated and well skinned. Gameplay is decent, but a bit uninspired. The patch, which you will have to get yourself from the site (the built in updater didn't detect it for me) Improves the feel of the game a bit by eliminating some of the visual lag that occured pretty regularly in the unpatched version. Note that by visual lag, I'm not talking about FPS drop, I'm talking about times when the game seems to "skip" rather than just suffering a framerate hit. From what I can tell, this seems to be a popular workaround for framerate slowdowns, but in the end it is actually alot more annoying. Once patched, Fire Warrior delivers a solid if not especially exceptional jaunt through the Warhammer universe. Not a waste of money, but nothing really special. If you're just looking for some FPS action, go for it. Its more fun than Quake 2 was (as if that's really saying too much :D

And here is one for "Dawn of War" edition:

This is a fantastic game and well worth the money. I haven't had any interest in an RTS game since I played Starcraft back in University about 7 years ago. The opening movie alone will get you into it.

In fact the game reminds me of starcraft a lot: Space marines=Terrans, Orcs=Zergs, Eldar=Protoss, Chaos=Infested Terrans. Nice big maps as well, with elevation and terrain being a factor.

The graphics are outstanding for an RTS, zooming in on the battle doesn't make the game easier, but it makes for a fun watch when you are on a major assault. The units are well balanced, and the advanced units are quite cool (marine mechs are awesome). Controlling squads instead of individuals is also realistic and refreshing. There isn't a lot of emphasis on resource gathering (a good thing I think), rather more focus on the micromanagement of your squads (morale, health, weaponry, reinforcements). The focus on controlling stratagetic points instead of resources forces players to explore the board and battle, rather than hoard resources and build one big army for the final attack.

Anyways the game is a ton of fun and has excellent replay battle. My only complaints are: 1) Single player campaign too short, and only for 1 race 2) Only 4 playable races (I hear there are ton of species in the Warhammer universe). Hopefully an expansion pack or user-made mods will change these things.

If you like RTS, Starcraft, Warhammer, get this game. I believe this is one of the best releases of 2004. Rome:Total War may be a better overall RTS game, but if you've grown tired of the medieval genre as I have, this may be up your alley. Warhammer 40K is a great title that you'll spend many hours playing.
Now THOSE are well-written game reviews!

I have on my machine:

dukenukem 3D
Quake II
Fallout (RPG of the year for '98)
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics
Max Payne
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Jagged Alliance 2 (kind of a sucky game if you ask me)

I'm interested in getting a few new games. tell me what you like and why you like it, even if they're older games. After I buy my next half million hits I'll need something to do while the bling rolls in.

You didn't add Rainbow Six on there.. That game spawned the whole tactical First Person Shooter craze that has taken over about half the market.

I just said "It's not that I've never heard of it", and then you ask me if I've ever heard of it??

You guys kill me.

I'VE HEARD OF IT for fuck sakes, as in I've heard the title.... I've never played it though so I'd like to actually read an actual comment or two from a few of you guys who HAVE played it as to what it's about and why YOU liked it, and what about the game you liked/disliked.

I tell you, you Sims fans, it's like pulling TEETH to get a simple review around here.

evildick 10-13-2004 04:48 PM

Don't waste your time on the Sims games. With the exception of SimCity, they all suck. Unless you enjoy the decorating and designing a house aspect. My daughter plays it for that reason.

SimCity is cool because of the financial aspect, trying to design and run a city that turns a profit.
